my gerbil is about a year old and every time i put him in his cage he escapes.

Get a couple cats or a new gerbil cage... either one should resolve your problem rapidly.

my gerbil is allways so scared when i try toget heroutof her cage i try to get her out fluently but she is really scared

It may be that your gerbil needs more stimuli. Depending on the type of cage you have, you may be able to extend that cage through the use of tubes. Another alternative is to use rolling gerbil balls that allow your pet to move about, but in a safe and enclosed area so your other pets won't harm the gerbil.

I can just see my cats all gathering around the gerbil ball and chasing it and batting it around - yikes!Get clamps for the gerbil cage lid - that will keep the little guy in.

I can't keep any of the hampsters we have bought alive. I don't know what it is, but within a week they are usually dead and I feel as though I do everything I am supposed to do. Would a guinea pig be any better?

Where are you keeping the hamsters? What are you feeding them? What are you putting in the water? What kind of cage? What kind of litter? Best to get to the bottom of why the hamsters are dying before you risk another animal's life. And yes, cats around a hamster ball are pretty funny. The animal inside isn't bothered by the cats, though. I know a hamster's eyesight isn't good enough to notice the cats. And the cats eventually get bored.

Yea gerbils are good for that. Something I get to look forward to after xmas. Our daughter wants Santa to bring her one, because her pet hamster died this past summer.

Just like me i have trouble geting my gerbil out of the cage!It takes forever so what i do is 1st: leave the cage door open and see if he/she comes out on the door, ps. I have a metal cage. 2nd get something that he/she can climb into. You have to have patcience and if none of these works ask an adult. From L

Kyle it's natural for gerbils to poop all of them do it. Make sure you're handling him the right way.
