I'm considering getting a pair of young ones for my 8 year old son. He has proven his responsibility with various other tasks around the house. Comment #1 tokay from tokay village - I got one for little brother. I bought the kit from the pet store. They don't take up too much space. I think you could put two in one of those cages but I wouldn't do more than that. You'll also need the guinea pig food, alfalfa, chew sticks, toys and vitamin c for their water. Comment #2 Bizzy from Hamster Wheel - The information I found is if you're going to get two, get immature females. Guinea pigs like a lot of space and are happy together so get a big cage. Comment #3 Odie from the dog house - I hear that guinea pigs are a great way to teach your kids responsibility before getting a dog. I just can't imagine have guinea pig for such a long time. I hear they can live up to 7 years! Comment #4 Nicola (86.10.82.83) - My children have looked after school guinnea pigs during school holidays, they now want one of their own. I have two tortortoies who have a open top enclosure in my garden. would pigs live happily with torts, obviously i would get a hutch for night time and indoor cage for winter months. Comment #5 Brandi (63.176.159.99) - Is it true that I shouldn't buy guinnea pigs for pet stores? I've heard that sometimes there can be a number of things wrong with them such as missexed, pregnant, have upper respiratory infections, and mites. I've heard of serveral induviduals taking their guinnea pigs home and the animal will die soon after. I was thinking that there bad health and frequent dealths may be a result of overcrowding. Comment #6 Emma from Ireland the Great (83.71.225.177) - I'm a kid so I know what we like.Guinnea pigs are great to teach kids responsibility. If you get 2 your best choice is 2 females or 2 males from the same litter who have never been seporated.Remember to get a big cage/hutch and a care book.Remember guinnea pigs can live up to 9 years. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
