Ball Pythons are known for fasting. Usually, but not always, it does have to do with stress (like changes in their daily pattern). Though there is a story of a full grown well fed adult going a full year without eating and did not even lose significant weight!

Two suggestions that come to mind for picky eaters are.. try gerbils as I have heard they are closest to what they eat in the wild. and try feeding while the snake has most of its body hidden in a "hide-y spot" (cave, upside down pot, etc.) because in the wild they often spend time underground in burrows even when feeding so it may make them less stressed.

If absolutely worst comes to worst (its body is losing a lot of fat/muscle) force feeding may be the only option. Snakes have been known to throw up whatever is force fed but it is always worth trying if it means saving their life.

If you don't have the time or funds to take basic care (yes vet trips are basic care) of your reptile you should speak to an animal rescue agency.

my snake is around 4ft long and it has decided to curl up in a corner and hasn't moved for the last 4 days.

its eyes started to turn cloudy so i thought he was going to shed again. he never eats when hes sheding so i haven't fed him since.yet he hasn't shed and his eyes are now clear. he just won't move

i have cats and a large cage but its never bothered him before.

all four of my snakes came down with this problem at the same time i have 2 bermese pythons in 1 cage and 2 ball pythons in another. all of my snakes have little tiny black bugs on them and it seams there burrowing into their skin. what should i do about this or would you happen to know what it is.

please help me.

The black "things" are mites. They arent a problem unless you let them go untreated. Just make a trip to a petsore and grab something called Prevent-A-Mite. Or any other mite treatment.

and as for the snake who wont come out of his corner it could be a few things. First thing check the temp and humidity. He should have spots at around 90 and a cool spot around 80-85. ALTHOUGH my snake seems to be MUCH more active at night (ball pythons are nocturnal) When the temp drops to around 75-80 he loves to come out and play. Try droping the temp. Also when feeding him trying feeding him in a cardboard box or somthing else that is completly closed and no see-thru. Then cover it with a towel or somthing that makes it dark. My snake will not eat if it is light outside.

i have a four foot long ball python that i haven't seen for four days. i have checked every known hot spot and have even had mice in a cage with heat source as a form of bait. the strategy has worked before but not now. im afraid that i have lost him to the outside and don't know what to do now. i have two cats that might have handled him:/. i don't know what to do sense now he might be outside and there are two gazillion places he could be.

your snake is shedding. snakes almost never eat when they shed.

Comment #24 Grace (1) from California (Contact Member) -

I have a year old Ball Python. He's probably 12 1/2 inches . He used to eat every week and now his eyes have been milky for quite some time. I thought he was just shedding at first but there is no other sign of it besides the eyes. Now it has been 3 months since he has eaten , should I just go to my local snake expert and get him diagnosed? I'm extremely worried I love him to death.

Grace
