Is a baby turtle a good idea for a pet? I remember reading somewhere they have something on them that can make you sick if you forget to wash your hands afterward. Is this true?

YES turtles make great pets. They do carry salmanilla, but all reptiles do. I have a red eared slider named BOB and he is great. He'll eat from my hand and i put him in the back yard on warm days. Whenever you see turtles in the wild they are shy and you cant see their behavior underwater.Land turtles are easier to care for but i prefer the water turtles they are much more active and have a lot of personality.

Mine will beg for food when he sees me. You cant get a baby from a pet store under 4" you would need to find them on the internet.do a lot of research before you get one Good luck

My neighbour had a turtle as a pet. We were surprised to see a turtle as a pet but when I checked with them for more details I found they are very good pets indeed. But unfortunately due to some disease that turtle is no more.

You can get the baby turtles are flea markets and festivals sometimes. They can't really sell it to you but you can buy a tank and get the turtle "free". They are good pets but they do stink sometimes.

We have a red eared slider, and he has more personality than our dog. Lol, he will wait by his cage every time we come in the door, because he LOVES to eat. its one of those animals that you can admire watching them swim! I think its a great pet to have!

"Thinking about a turtle"

I have been thinking about getting a turtle for a while. People tell me they have personality. Is that specific to different species? How hard is it to tell gender? How hard are they really to care for?
