I saw one of these at the pet store and was thinking it was a cool pet. The guy at the store was saying something about that they were biters and wouldn't let go. Was he for real?

Yes, Tokays are biters! Their first reaction when threatened is to attack. Their teeth are like little files so there is only damage when they hold and tear, a nip is not really painful. I have definitely seen them draw blood. If you want a cuddly gecko get a crested or a leopard.With that said, with time some Tokays can become tame at least to their owners but it would take daily effort on the owner's part. Even with their bad attitude they are a beautiful addition to a planted terrarium!
