Am wondering what you can do to help with rabbit mites? Keep getting mites in the fur by their ears. Anyone know what you can do about this? I don't think they are damaging the rabbits, just annoying the heck out of them and I'm afraid the rabbits will tear their skin open and get infecitons.

I am not sure if there is something over the counter you can use. I think you might have to take your pet to the vet and let them give you drops for their fur.

I recently took my bunny in because he had irritated skin and, as suspected, he had fur mites. It can be painful and increasingly unhealthy for any rabbit, especially over time, and is recommended that the animal(s) be treated for the mites right away -- you would treat your dog for fleas, wouldn't you?! That said, my vet provided a shot to help prevent the parasites from surviving and doused my rabbit with a anti-mite powder bath of somesort. This will kill the living adults, but the eggs will still be in his fur. That said, this will all take two-three treatments to remedy, but I'm sure he'll be much happier for it! Of course your bunnies are going crazy -- imagine having hundreds of microscopic mosquito bites, with eggs under your skin, and creepy crawlies in your fur! It's been described to me as a feeling like never ending razor burn!

in our thesis we would be using crotamiton (EURAX) as our positive control. selamectin is also used against rabbit mites

hi just read the question about the fur mites and my lop ear rabbit had them an i took him to the vets and they gave him one injection that went into his blood and a couple of days later he was completely clear. However if you leave them they can destroy the skin and the fur, so it would be better to sort it out as soon as it is noticed.

I have a herd of 50 rabbits and for the first year not one problem (or so it seemed.)Now problems are manifesting. Of corse I handle them all and I guess I have spred the problem which started with 2 does with ear mites. I now have 3 with vent scabs , one with hair loss around his one eye and 2 with a patch of wet fur around the cheek backwards which did all come out within days. I might also mention that I have a nasty rash on my neck I, m sure from the same pest. I guess I will go out and get the Ivomectin today but what about me? Any other helpful hints?
