Most Expensive Pet you ever bought

Courtney (1) from The South -

We bought a miniature toy poodle in a pet shoppe for $400.00. Now, thinking back that probably was not the smartest move. "Buddy" was a good dog, but overpriced. What are some of your outrageous pet purchases?

Comment #1 Lucy from Hickville, USA -

We bought Sadie for a very responsible $125. She was from some people we know. Shadow on the other hand was $350 I believe. We bought Shadow on a whim. Saw an ad in a paper and went and looked at them and brought her home. They are both very much worth it but it is crazy what some people will charge for pets.

I bought a bouvia pup for about $275 not including the travel. The breeder was out of state and was the only one I could find. I figured it was worth it since the parents were show dogs.

I bought a German Shepperd from a Specialized Kennel for US$ 1.000 (quite expensive indeed! Mainly in Brazil!!!), but I do not regret it.

German Shepperds are loyal, intelligent and have incredible stats in each and every area you can remember. Despite being strong dogs, they have a gentle and kind personality and it's really a joy to own one.

I bought a chinchilla for 250.00. I raise them and expected him to be good for my herd, he broke his leg the night I brought him home and died a week later although he didnt seem to notice his leg was broken. it was on the weekend and I couldnt find a vet, a day later he seemed fine. so I read about it online learned that a vet couldnt do anything much anyway. I'd say thats the only animal not worth what I paid. and I've owned about 30 diff kinds of animals

Some breeders of "special" breeds will try to make a killing. For example, a purebred Pomeranian costs from $500 to $1000. There are unethical breeders of "Teacup Poms" who charge $2000-$5000. There is NO such breed as the "Teacup" Pomeranian! What breeders do, is breed 2 runt dogs together to produce very small puppies. They will also starve dogs and some even force the mom into labor early so that the pups are so tiny!

Many breeds have breeders who practice this terrible way of getting money. Chihuahua breeders claim to have "Teacup" Chihuahuas! No such thing! The Chi is the smallest dog in the world.

No one should spend over $1000 for a dog. Period. If they do, they are giving money to greedy, unethical people.

I own 3 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and they are one of the most expensive breeds of dogs out there. They range in price from an average low of $1200 to a high of over $5000, I PAID for mine 1st dog: Tricolor Male Cavalier. $2000, 2nd dog. Blenheim Male Cavalier: $2000 and Blenheim Female Cavalier: $2000
