kitten in a tree

I found this forum because my kitten escaped from the house early this morning and ended up in a 150 ft tree.

First of all, cats or kittems DO NOT always come down on his/her own. I was not going to leave my baby boy in a tree all night. He ran out of the house at 7 this morning. I don't know what time he actually made it up the tree but by 5 pm I was in a state of panic. The tree that he climbed up was in the worst place possible. My kitten had crawled up a tree that was not only high but also on a steep hillside. The weather has been a mixture of rain and snow.. so the climb to the tree was difficult for me.

After several hours, I was sick with worry. I had watched a tv episode that said that several hours without food and water can make the animal confused and disoriented. He was meowing and trying to come down. The basket idea was impossible. There was no way to getting the line to the lowest branch.

I finally decided to scare him out of the tree with water. What was the worst thing that could happen.. the kitten could climb higher. However, the water house wouldn't reach him at that height. I'm in KY so I a surrounded by trees. I decided to cut a small tree close to that tree down so that it would create a bridge for him to walk down. It worked. I found a tree that would fall against the other tree and all I had to do was entice him to come down a few feet.

I know somepeople might think this extreme or dangerous. I love my kitten and could not stand the thought of any animal starving to death. If you have the same problem that I had today, I SUGGEST THE WATER FIRST.. he'll will either come down or go higher. If all else fails, try to find something to make a ramp so that the cat will have an easy exit. It might seem extreme but Banjo is currently in the house with no problems except deciding which bed to sleep in tonight.

I hope this helps
