There is a small animal rescue organization near us. I think most people, when faced with fertile gerbils or a hamster their child has grown bored of, just dumps it somewhere and leaves it to die. This place had cages and cages of gerbils, hamsters, guinnea pigs, mice, rats, ferrets, and even chinchillas and hedgehogs.

I know that when I get my son's small pet, it will be from this rescue.
