My friend keeps getting dogs through this local Animal Rescue service, but they are all messed up. One has been blinded, another is scared if you walk toward it, and the other one she has been maimed with an upside down cross tatoo on it's stomache. I realize these abused animals need a home, but I wonder can you ever get a decent pet without ready made problems through a Pet Rescue group?

Well, the shelter should screen them for temperment. I think its just a sad fact of life that lots and lots of dogs and other animals are abused.

I have adopted kittens through pet rescue groups - they were perfectly normal.

It's good to know that you can get an untraumatized pet from Pet Rescue. I gues my friend just likes to care for the ones that are most victimized.

The good thing about getting a pet from a rescue is that they will bring the animal to your house so you can get to know it and it get to know you and your surroundings. They want to make sure that the pet won't find itself in a shelter after a few months. You can always contact them and have them take it back if you don't want it.

I think it's great that people have it in there heart to help the abused and "weird" animals. If it wasn't for people like that, they would die alone in a cage. More people should get a dog because they want to help it and take care of it. I understand there are situations such as children in the house and finances, however, if you start your children young, and get them involved, there would be less kids raised to abuse animals, and less abused animals that need saving! GOD BLESS those who rescue these animals and give them homes. I would never buy a pet from a breeder or pet store. It's not right

God Bless all of us who adopt these precious creatures who need us as much as we need them!!

I am an executive board member of a non-profit, non-governmental organisation striving to assist in the healing of abused, neglected and hurting people and animals. I would like to invite anyone who is interested to learn more about our work to visit our website at www.retreat2den.co.za

pet rescuers are just people no different.

if a nice one comes in, it will be gone before YOU have a chance to see it. however, animal shelters in large cities, particularly cities with large minority populations have many dogs brought in. and not all of them are neglected or abused.

a friend of mine volunteers at such a place over 90 dogs and many cats, and I have seen some of these dogs. of course the little and young ones get placed fast, but some of these pits and pit mixes are great and really UP dogs, full of life and attitude!! grab one while they are still around. unfortunately the older dogs are difficult to place but they have much so love to offer.
