CAT STUCK IN A TREE

Thank author of this post/commentJust to let all you know that CATS DO DIE In Trees. The skeletons are not found, since they fall down when they DIE. I find that whole skeleton thing DISGUSTING. There is nothing FUNNY about someone's CAT in my Tree for 9 DAYS and NO ONE WILL COME/HELP. My Town, ASPCA, MSPCA, Humane Society, Animal Rescus League REFUSED TO HELP/COME & most said SHE'LL COME DOWN. My Town even called the NEW Animal Control Officer that wasn't even on the JOB YET...he said same-when her hunger overcomes her fear, she'll come down. But if she's distressed, stuck, hurt - he'll come. DAH, I would call not eating/drinking for 7 days (at that point) DISTRESSED! We buried this poor BUGGER when whe fell out of the tree DEAD & STIFF with a nice stone and flowers (I have a big yard)! JUST WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH ALL THESE GROUPS WITH ALL THEIR DOUGH (PETA the evilest of all)??? Sorry, but their AGENDA is mostly to HURT THE SPORTSMAN & Certainly, NOT TO CURE CANCER.....

My cat Sophie has been stuck in a tree now for 4 days. We have called everyone you can thnk of calling, Humane Society, Fire Dept ( they don't help in this way any longer), Animal Rescue, Animal Control, Tree services, etc. I am totally distressed and feel completely helpless as I feel I am waiting for her to die. Neighbors have tried to help by encouraging her but she is so afraid and I feel there is absolutely nothing I can do. If anyone out there has any other suggestions PLEASE let me know. She is too high up for any ladder to reach. The tree she is in has few limbs and is a very small tree which makes it literally impossibly to even try and climb. She is one of the best cats I have ever had and feel that she knows she is going to die which tears me apart. I just can't believe that any of the agencies we have called that have anything to do with caring for animals can't do anything.

Thanks for letting me comment.

Catherine

do not believe what you hear the animal will not come down when its hungry becuase its scared out of its mind and the longer you wait to attempt to rescue it the more distressed it gets. no food, water or toys will tempt it to come down, the only way that you can hope to get your animal back home to safety is not to call the animal rescue's, humane soceity's, or fire departments but to call a tree climber. just today our family parrot flew into a tree and was over 90 feet in the air and every where we called for help we got the same answer, they couldnt help us. so finally by the grace of god we happened to bump into a proffesional tree climber who agreed to climb up into the tree and rescue our baby, and he did all of this in just 40 minutes out of the 8 hours that we had been attempting in vain to get him out of the tree. it was incredible and we are so thankful because we were convinced that we would never see our beloved parrot back. so please, please, please if your animal is stuck up in a tree dont go on the word of the humane soceitys, fnd a tree climber near you and get your animal out of the tree before its to late.

Thank author of this post/commentI'm not sure what she's talking about saying the Animal Rescue League of Boston wouldn't come and help..., it's quite a frequent call they do a year...about 150 of them. However, if Kathy from Millbury, MA called The ARL of Worcester..., the two are NOT connected. They are seperate humane societies. I am sorry that KfM, got the shaft. I know for a fact that the call didn't come through the call log. The calls are also recorded. The only call I remember doing that day was in Quincy, MA. It involved an extremely vined tree complete with a raccoon family. Ugh.

Unfortunately, I have seen dead cats in trees. I have seen them up for as long as 18 days...only because no one knew who to call. I have also seen them literally stuck in the 'V's' of the tree. Again, for Kathy from Millbury, MA. I am sorry for her loss.

While I know that most humane societies do not handle these calls because they're not trained as treeclimbers or just plain don't have the equipment, I hope that they would have numbers for trained tree climbers. I know that police or most fire departments, even animal control officers won't or can't help (union rules), it's also very much true that they don't have animal handling experience or get rabies vaccinations (Police and fire). So if they get bitten, it's an health issue. I know this varies by state. Most fire and police departments are usually busy handling human rescues. That's their priority. While I can't truly speak for them, I can only explain a bit for purposes of understanding.

Thank author of this post/commentBirds are bit trickier, mostly because they are flighted. Even if you can climb the tree that they're on..., doesn't mean that the bird will not take off to a new spot. You cannot chase the bird tree to tree..., usually other plans are devised if that is the case. I've had good success but I think it's mostly situational...not because of anything we did personally. Except maybe one. I had a kid call me from a tree with his bird...he and his bird were both stuck. It was interesting to say the least. Both did come down with me.

There are qualified people that will come and rescue cats in a tree. Arborist are great resources for cat in a tree rescue . They have the training and equipment to safeyl access the tree and bring your feline back to the ground. Here is a website of arborist and qualified tree climbers willing to rescue.

I have gotten the same with no help for my kitty in a tree for 4 days, I dont want him to suffer to death, Ive called everywhere, any suggestions?

#7

Mike

so my kitty jumped up in the 65 foot tree, I read up on the internet what to do, called the fire dept, "professional" tree climbers, anything I could think of, then when I read that they dont come down they just die in trees, I jumped up there and threw the cat out of the tree into a blanket, where she then screeched(I almost fell out of the tree laughing histarically ) and she landed safely, if you can climb the tree just do it, if you can't find someone who is willing to do it, it's not that hard mind over matter

The neighbor's 9-month old cat climbed up an oak tree to approximately the 30 to 35 foot range and stayed there for about 5 days, too frighten to come down.

Here is what I came up with to get feed and water to the cat. I used a long extension pole (used for pruning branches off of trees). I duct taped to that pole another stick which had a basket device at the end (used for pulling fruit off of trees). In the basket I taped a bowl inside it. Then I soaked the food with water, and raised it up to the cat's level where it could feed.

By the fifth day I created another exit for the cat. By using a nearby shed we placed a long wooden plank from the roof and extended it to a ladder at the other end. The plank was now about 10 feet off the ground. From that base we straddled a long aluminum extension ladder on the plank with the top leaning against the tree. In order to create a more user-friendly ladder for the cat so she could hold on better with her claws, we wrapped a blanket around the top part of the ladder, and duct taped towels at the lower rungs. and then weaved ropes around the blanked and lower ladder. We used another long plank to break the severity of the ladder's angle by threading it through a lower rung and running it to the shed roof. The cat finally came down that night.

There is a cat stuck up on top of a 50 foot power pole. Has been up there all day. I have tried calling SPCA, fire department and also a non emergency emergency number as well as the Edison Company. The Edison Company said to call Animal Control (SPCA). SPCA said to call Edison. The fire dept did not pick up their phone line, so I left a message. After reading all of your comments, I feel that this poor cat will die up on the power pole and only then will fall to the ground. I am not the owner of the cat, but I am sure that the owner is worried. I tried everything I could to scare it down and to also try to make the cat lose it's balance and fall off, but nothing worked.

Bummer

All,

I found a website called catinatreerescue.com We just called someone who is one there way to rescue our 2 year old who has done this for the 2nd time. The first time I was able to get a ladder and rescue him, but now he's way too high for my ladder. The folks on this website will climb on up and get your cat. Give it a look and hopefully they have someone nearby.

Thank author of this post/commentIf a cat is high up in a tree, it will most likely die. A cat has claws that only work going up a tree, and if they attempt to slide down the tree there claws will simply slide, and they could fall and die.

The only way is to have someone get the cat. The cat cannot coem down on it's own.

Thank author of this post/commentOne of our cats got chased 40ft up a 100ft pine. She found an old nest to hang out in while she cried for help. We tried to coax her down with food and holding her sister at the base of the tree. The cat was just out of reach with a 32ft ladder sitting on the back of my pick-up. The local arborist came out the next day for us, but our cat was frightened further up the tree. At 80 or more feet, the cat was now to far up for the arborist to climb safely. The arborist left a basket with cat food in the tree at about 70ft. Our cat remained in that tree at various heights for more than 2 week. When it rained, she drank, (we have had plenty of rain!)and I can only guess as to what she ate. On the 17th day, after several days without rain, she finally climbed down. Not all cats will come down, but give them a chance, keep calm and most cats will come home.

To Linda,

Thanks for explaining how you manged to rescue the cat from 3-35 ft up.

My sweet little kitty climbed to the top of the house roof sometime this evening. It's now close to midnight, too dark to see her.

Your suggestions have given me ideas on how to rig together a 'mcgyver" solution.

Thanks again,

I hope we have her down very soon.

I came home yesterday around 2 PM from California. I go out straight to let my dog out from the back and I hear a meowing. I look up and there is a calico cat stuck up in my tree that is higher than my second story. There are no branches what so ever for me to even get close to the cat. I have attempted to use the ladder but that doesn't reach the cat either. Now it's been over a day and the cat is still up in the tree. I went out there this morning to check on it and it was still up there of course. So I got on the ladder half up the tree and I start calling for "here kitty kitty" and kiss noises etc. I attempts to climb down the tree and it falls halfway down and then it seemed like it couldn't think of how to climb down the second half of the tree so it climb back up the tree to a branch so it wouldn't fall... I was like thinking "YOU WERE SO CLOSE WHY?!" and my dad won't allow me to do anything about it. It thinks it would climb down eventually that fear would overcome hunger but reading every story on here...it scares me. Its a beautiful cat and I am determine to get it down. I was thinking of going to the hardware store and get a long rope, tie it to a bucket...but cat food in the bucket and maybe it would climb into the bucket and I can anchor it down? I might just try that and my last resort will be to call someone... but fire departments, I thought you have to pay ? My dad said its around $1000 to call them out to your house and get a cat. It's about to rain soon so I should probably hurry.

"Why no rescue by organizations!"

We have seen several people fall and die in attempts to rescue cats out of trees. The liability does not allow for many employees of organizations to do so because of it. If all else fails, tie a long rope to a softball and attach the other end to a bucket. Place wet food in the bucket. Through the ball to a branch near the cat. Pull the bucket up to the cat by reeling in the rope from the fallen ball.

""Hydro company saved the day""

Here in East York, Canada, Hydro Company guys just rescued a cat from to of an old 30' electric pole. Nobody else, including animal control services, firefighters, raccoon guys, tree services was even remotely interested in doing it even for a fee.
