Please help I am worried my racoon is sick and i don't know whats wrong!

Stacey (1) from Montucky - Fri Jul 18 01:14:06 2008

Its kinda a long story. My racoon is about 3 months old. A wonderful joy and i love hims so much. Today i put him in his cage and he was fine. Being playfull, yelling at me when i put him in there and was wanting out. He was running around the house all day. Normal. I came back home about an hour later and the first thing i do is get him out of his cage. I noticed he was walking funny kinda slow. I figured he was groggy he just woke up. then i realized he was almost limping on his back leg. He was still walking slowly and when he got to the kitchen he layed on his belly with his arms out to the side still standing on his back legs like he couldn't use his front legs. I thought maybe they fell asleep as well. As time progressed it didnt' get any better. He will use them but then he lays on his belly again with his arms out to the side. When he is on the coutch he is on his back. Same when he is in his cage. He won't grab things like he did earlier. then he went in the bathroom sat in the corner on his hind end straigt up and his front arms were by is belly and they started to twitch. Then his hand like cramped up. He won't spread his fingers but he will walk on them. He grabs food out of his bowl and still eats. He drinks water. Its almost like he has some nerve damage. I checked his cage there was nothing that he could've ate or gotten into. He was fine. Earlier when i was trying to understand what his hands were doing i was trying to feed him grahm crackers, his favorite and he wouldn't eat them. After awhile he started eating them and was just having trouble holding them. Now i am worried all he wants to do is cuddle with a blanked in the dark and sleep on his back. he will play but like i said before its like his hands aren't working right. When he is in his cage he scoots barly walks. When he is out he walks on his feet. Now i'm scared to let him sleep he might not wake up. He's breathing normal and his heart rate isn't different. Please help me i am worried and he's like my baby. Any ideas???

they are kinda like children only fury and smarter they get tired and they can get cramps

but if it last for more than a few hours id consider taking them to a vet

have you tried checking them for any ticks (not fleas)try a small some ticks have paralysis and lethargy for symptoms when they bite

do you give him any thing with caffeine or lots of sugar the busing around before could have been like a sugar rush

or possible while playing he smacked smashed or bruised his hand their reactions to pain may not be the same as ours siena would sleep in a dark place untill she felt better when ever she got hurt even if it was just a small scratch

i was just a little kid last time i owned a raccoon so i dont know if this helps any
