Groomers

Wolfgang from Dog Pound -

Go you take your pet to the groomer or do you do it all yourself? I will try to clip their nails myself, but I won't bathe them. I'd much prefer to just pay someone to do it.

There are lots of dog grooming vans around town... they come to your house.

I wish there were groomers around here who made house calls. I take mine to the groomers just because I don't have time to do it myself. I can drop them off and pick them up a hour or two later.

How about your cats? Do you take your cats to the groomers or do your mobile groomers come for the cats?

The vet will make house calls for the cat, dunno about the groomers. It's a bit off topic... but you can get medical house calls (its included in my ambulance insurance plan for about $8/mo). The lab will also come to your house to take your blood for no extra charge.

I actually had a vet who made house calls in California. I couldn't believe it. It was the most wonderful thing since the cat I needed it for is so hard to get into a box. That wonderful vet told me I was killing my cat by getting her the cortisone shots that make her not itchy for six weeks or so. Poor baby has food allergies. I took her to the allergist and we had the testing done. I never got the result, though. I draw the line at giving her shots. But that was over seven years ago that she told me that. LOL! I wonder if I could find a house calling vet out here.

So, you think I should look for a mobile groomer. And you think it's worth it just to clip nails?

I don't know if it would be worth it for cats. Mobile grooming usually costs more than a groomer and cats are pretty good at bathing themselves. Next time your in just ask your vet what would be the best materials for a scrathing post for the cat and get something with a couple different things. Then they can sharpen the claws themselves and then you won't have to clip them at all.

Clipping claws is to remove the sharp part. And claws still have to be clipped even if a scratching post is being used regularly. The scratching post only helps to remove the dead nail sheath, not the sharp nail tip. That tip is what scratches, snags, and can become ingrown.

I am an animal groomer... If the owner is an elderly person.. then I do go to their house... or some of them just want me to pick up their dog/cat and then bring them back when i am done.. which isnt a big deal at all. I enjoy helping them.
