It gives the buyer an opportunity to see the dogs available for breeding as well as meeting the owners of the dog. Breeders that show their dogs are interested in breeding top quality dogs and the overall improvement of the breed therefore ensuring a healthy lineage. A good breeder is not looking to breed their dogs to make money but to sire the next generation of a possible champions, if they do not obtain a champion from a litter they will sell the puppies. Your chances of obtaining a high quality healthy dog increases when buying from a reputable breeder. If you are not sure where to begin, go to your selected breeds rescue sites, they can lead you in the right direction as to who are reputable breeders and whom NOT to buy from. I strongly recommend that you not buy from flashy sites on the internet and do not be fooled by clean facilities for these can be a front to a puppy broker/puppy mill. It is important that you do diligent research or you could end up paying a very high price for not doing so. I purchased a French bull dog puppy from bigbulldogs.com and the puppy was sold to me with cheyletiella, a highly contagious form of mange not only to animals but to 20-30% of the human population. My healthy black pug and I contracted mange from the puppy sold to me by the above mentioned breeder. I have since found out that the breeder who sold me my puppy has numerous complaints against him. Please be careful and do your homework buying a sick puppy can get you and your family sick as well. For more information on what to look out for please go to the wrong puppy.com. Comment #1 Will (63.176.159.234) - Hi, Analisa! Great post. I love dogs and totally agree with you. It would be interesting to get to know the experiences others have had in this respect. I myself had one: I love German Shepards and bought a beautiful puppy some time ago. Daughter of "Armani", a local champion, my intention was to breed her and get beautiful puppies to sell. The only thing I noticed was that she always slept and had a strange odor on her that I could not get to go away even by bathing her often. At one point I took her to the vetīs where I bought her to leave her there for a few days while I went on a trip. When I returned five days later the vet looked at me and said: "She died". No reason, she just died. He did an autopsy and there was nothing apparently wrong with her. One great mystery... Cheers! • Page 1 (Original Post) •
