Comment #1 Elroy (64.76.40.245) - Mike, Comment #2 Jeanette from AZ - I had no idea that the lifespan of an iguana was that long. My 8 year old daughter would like to get one for her birthday but I am not sure she is ready for the responsibility. Ultimately I know that I would be the one who would be taking care of it!! Comment #3 Dominic (24.202.17.147) - I love my new iguana.....His name is spike. He is about 16 inches long so i am assuming he is about three months old. I am a new father so i need the most and bestest advice out there!! Comment #4 josh from ellsworth air force base - Dominic please go to google and type in iguana zone. this website is a forum dedicated to giving iggy owners the most accurate information possible on how to care for their friends. Look for me on their my screen name is joshua12. introduce yourself and then start firing away at your questions, or just read up and learn all you can..... Comment #5 Reagen Cataquet (68.199.103.184) - My iguana Ozzy is 15 years old (female). She is a happy, healthy lizard with the reign of the house! I know she is elderly in Iguana life, but I still think of her as a cute little iguana sitting on my shoulder. Now she is too big and heavy for that! Comment #6 alexander Fiori (71.172.65.142) - Wow. I didn't know iguanas could live that long. And 29, that really old!!!!! Well for an iguana. Anyway I plan on getting one!!! Comment #7 Barb P,California (24.7.90.249) - I have a male iguana that is 15 yrs old that I got when he was 1 1/2. Male iguanas are not good pets for children, esp girls. Even the Vivarium, the store from which I bought him in Berkeley, says that they no longer allow people to buy them as pets for their children. When male iguanas hit puberty, they become very agressive and territorial toward a female care giver. My iguana, who had been docile and sweet, out-of-the-blue, bit my face and I needed 30 stitches. The vet said that males will act this way toward their primary female caregiver. He doesn't act aggressive toward my 2 sons nor my husband. I kept him and am now much more careful when I handle him. Don't get me wrong-I love my pet but I would never recommend it for a small child. Mine is @ 5 ft long and weighs 17#s at last vet visit. They also should never be given run of the house as they are very territorial and will see all the house as their domain and defend it, acting aggressively. I have a large cage, sinilar to a phone booth, where I keep him when the weather is cold. During the hot months, he basks in the sun in my kitchen window all day. I confine him to the kitchen and, if he gets out, I always find hime on my bed-he knows exactly which rm is mine at the other end of the house!. My housekeeper, who is from El Salvador, always jokes that she is going to take him home and eat him! Comment #8 Andrew (68.147.35.199) - My iguana is about 8years and is not hostile toward my girlfriend but he will "defend" defend himself if anyone reaches in the cage, once he is out he is very friendly but will go out of his way to climb onto anyone's head. the only time he will actually start fighting is when he see's himself in the mirror. Comment #9 Rita (76.175.71.206) - We purchased an iguana in 1991, and after 17 years he's still perfectly healthy! We take decent care of him, but we don't go out of our way with vitamins or a special diet. He gets lettuce daily, and he has a big wood/screen house outside with a heating stone. But that's about it. Our iguana's never made a single trip to the vet, and he handsome as ever! Comment #10 Bill Retard (216.56.48.194) - It is my birthday and i want a iguana really bad.
