I have a 4 year old male iguana. He has always been very people tame and not at all mean. However, during the last year, he has become very aggressive towards my dogs. I pretty much give him free rein to roam only my bedroom which is pretty large, but can't let him roam the whole house because I am afraid he will bite the dogs. Is this normal behavior for iguanas to become so aggressive to other pets?

When I first brought my cat home, they would lie together in the cage and he would rest his head against her fur. The dogs were never a problem until the last year.

I love my iguana, but he is becoming so aggressive with my other animals, I don't know what to do with him. Does anyone have any suggestion other than keeping them apart?

"Iguanas, especially males, are highly territorial. The more dominant males carve out territories into which they will not allow other males. Males will allow females to pass through or spend time in their territory."

Male iguanas are very territorial. Also, maybe your dogs behaviours are making the iguana feel threatened? I know our dogs like to catch things in their teeth when playing - if they have ever tried to do this to the iguana, no doubt the iguana would be hostile in response and not realize it was play.
