Writing in all CAPS does not come out nicely. I would ask for more photos and specifications of the said pets. Somewhat trained is also a bit scanty for information regarding a pet. All in all, there are more places you could these from if you needed to purchase. I doubt if shipping would be provided for just one iguana. In any case, the person would have indicated just that. Has the pet been examined by a vet?

Indeed, there are many iguanas in need of a good home. The Iguana Reascue and Adoption center normally house unwanted and uncared for 'iggys' temporarily as new homes and owners are sought after.

Prospective adoptors must have knowledge of both care and equipment use before considering making that move.

There is a 50.00 charge for each Iguana for adoption to cover the housing and feeding costs.

Animal shelters or rescue centers are a reliable place for adopting future pets. You aren't just helping these abused or neglected animals find a new home but also supporting this noble cause of proper care and treatment of animals. Either hot or cold-blooded animals deserve the proper and ethical treatment.

I have already adopted two dogs from an animal shelter at our place but i don't think Iguanas are my kind of pets but do support the adoption programs.

A brief intro about iguanas

Iguana is a genus of lizard native to tropical areas of Central and South America and the Caribbean.(A few species of iguanas like the Fiji Banded Iguana are however found outside the New World). The genus was first described by Austrian naturalist Josephus Nicolaus Laurenti in his book Specimen Medicum, Exhibens Synopsin Reptilium Emendatam cum Experimentis circa Venena in 1768. The genus Iguana includes two species: the green iguana (a popular pet) and the lesser Antillean iguana.

The word "Iguana" is derived from a Spanish form of the original Taino name for the species "Iwana".

Why do people like the idea of petting an iguana

Why do people own green iguanas? Aside from the fun of showing off a little dinosaur resting comfortably on your shoulder, what is it that is so fascinating about having a huge untamed lizard that can grow up to 6 ft long and has a tendency to bite?

Contrary to what many people think, a green iguana makes a unique and amazing pet.

I think or should i say, i am not into the idea of making a green iguana that is scaly and cold blooded as my pet. It is a little creepy.

I would not want a pet that would do only three to four poses a day without moving at all.

I would still go for dogs, i love dogs, they are warm and very gentle. They can also show affection.

Comment #10 Chiqui (63.176.159.196) - Tue Oct 13 23:11:23 2009

Maybe it is a little creepy for you but then again some people love the idea of keeping those scaly and cold blooded animals. Maybe it is the thrill that invites them to keep those iguanas.

Imagine keeping or owning something that your peer do not have. People love the idea of impressing someone so when they have something that others don't, then it is cool..

Have a good day..

Are you sure you want to adopt an exotic animal?

The term exotic animal generally refers to animals other than dogs, cats, horses, and livestock. Although some exotic animals, like hamsters, guinea pigs, and rabbits, have been domesticated or tamed by generations of selective breeding many other exotic species have not. Some exotic-pet owners may be in for a wild ride. Even if an exotic animal was born in captivity, it is still an untamed animal. Its unpredictable nature increases the risk bites and scratches.

"Iguana's"

Iguana's need homes and love to cause in the wild they are getting pushed out of their homes bye people buildings, I am a reptile recue group out of bridgeport CT, and i have 5 iguana's, 3 bearded dragons, 1 leopard gecko, 3 ball pythons, 1 red ear slider, 1 red tail boa, and a brown snake,

and if some one dont want or care for their reptile anymore they need to look for some one who is well qualified to take proper care of him , housing, food, vet's that take reptiles,

Comment #13 Nino (63.176.159.183) - Tue Oct 27 19:51:21 2009

maybe they are being pushed away in the wild with those constructions and industrialization that are continuously going on in their natural habitat, but i still stand with my point. And if ever that the wild is no longer capable of sustain them, then i suggest that those reptiles be put on rehabilitation centers where they can really be taken care of very very well.

But we have different opinions here.

Comment #14 Elisa of the ethical treatment of animals (63.176.159.122) - Mon Nov 2 22:14:49 2009

There are some animals which are intended to be taken care off while some really just needed to belong to the wild. I really don't think that these exotic reptiles together with wild mammals shouldn't be treated as common house pets. Besides the fact that they are unstable to have to begin with (no matter how enduring the discipline training they might undergo), they could also endanger other people like your neighbor or unknowing passers-by if ever they escape their captivity.

Comment #15 Ryan (63.176.159.34) - Wed Nov 4 21:38:22 2009

Have to agree with Elisa. I also think and believes that those wild animals eventhough trained very well are still wild in nature. They might harm you or anyone living with you in your home, or worst, it can cause danger to your neighbor if it manages to escape from captivity.

Why cant people be satisfied with dogs or cats, as pets at home. Or if you want something swimming then buy some gold fishes.

Comment #16 Nico (63.176.159.202) - Tue Nov 10 23:13:06 2009

Maybe because people want something to boast their peers that is why they tend to adopt strange animals such as crocodiles, snakes and iguanas. Or maybe the thrill and excitement of owning one is the very reason they cage this animals in their homes not knowing the possible danger they might be facing living with them.

I have to agree to the other people here that we should let those poor animals free.

Comment #17 Eve (63.176.159.121) - Mon Nov 16 10:48:19 2009

Iguanas are great creatures when they are tame, but when wild they can be very vicious if you are too close. The tail is used as a whip to ward off predators and so on.
