I just recentally bought 3 goldfish and I wanted to know about how long my fish will live. That is if i feed them properly.

"The oldest living Goldfish to date was a goldfish named Tish owned by Hilda and Gordon Hand of Thirsk, N. Yorkshire, England. Tish lived for 43 years after being won at a fairground in 1956.Goldfish can have lifespans up to 20+ years if they are fed a varied diet and housed in exceptional water conditions. They need to be in tanks that are not overcrowded. They need sufficient swimming room and do best if they are kept with their own types." Of course, if I am around and get hungry your gold fish may have a very short life span!

That is a great story. 43 years - Wow! The longest I have ever had goldfish for was about 14 years, and I did take very good care of them.

If you take good care of the goldfish it can live a really long time. It is about consistency with your aquarium. Be sure to keep it clean and feed them properly. With goldfish I always made sure to have a filter in my aquarium because they are dirty. And remember one inch of fish per gallon. So if you have a five gallon tank, you can have up to 5 inches of fish (or probably 2-3 goldfish).

45 years?! wow i wonder if thats true. I thought it was only a few years on small fish. 45 years is longer then a cat or dog!

Wow, that is a long time for that fish's lifespan!! The longest we ever had a goldfish was about a year. We woke up one morning and the poor thing was already floating.

At that rate mine might outlive me lol, but I wouls never get one from the fair. 2 yrs ago my daughter won one and it had a disease and killed all her fish. she was devestated. I have 2 feeder goldfish that got smart and hid from my turtle and now they are HUGE. I might need to put a pond outside for them

Hello Fish Fans, I had two beautiful and hardy goldfish, Romeo and Juliet. Yes, literary names. They befriended my cat black Kerouac (who became their furry friend and put his face up to the aquarium daily, and lived more than five yrs. During the recent Angora Fire at South Lake Tahoe, I chose to evacuate. My neighbor (preparing to flee)rescued my two beloved fish. Three days later: One fish died. She told me the other one -- looked sluggish. Two days later: I got a report my fish was doing very well. I brought her home and she was happy but I sensed lonely. So, I got two new fish...Everyone was swimming, healthy, and content until... Last night when I cleaned their home...Juliet passed this AM. The two other fish, Angora and Oliver are doing fine. I am heartbroken by this Shakespearean-type tragedy. I am sensing that Juliet was strong but lonely and longed for her long-time swimming companion.
