I'd like to try adding seahorses to my aquarium. Anyone have experience with them? I have no real knowledge of them as a species other than observing them in aquaria all over the world, but they are obviously quite hardy creatures and so shouldn't be too difficult to rear in captivity. Question is what are their natural enemies? Are they attacked by fish?

thats not true. if they were illegal in the US they wouldnt sell them in hawaii. they sell them only in pairs though, because they want them to be with another, so they arent lonely. it cuts their lifespan in half if theyre alone

Seahorses are not illegal at all in the US... in fact many species are native to florida waters... however some are difficult to keep as they require some advanced knowledge of feeding and care. the best to start with is called a dwarf seahorse which is the most hardy and only grows to about an inch long, so you can have a few in a good sized tank. however, be warned that all seahorses are marine (saltwater) and cannot be housed with anything other thing corals and pipefish as other things would steal their food too quickly or eat the seahorses themselves. if youve never housed fish of any kind i would recommend maintaining a large freshwater aquarium for about a year before starting a saltwater, as the demands from a saltwater aquarium are much greater than a freshwater
