'Breeding Guppies'

I don't have very much experience with guppies, but I was wondering if anyone knows how hard it is to breed guppies, I want to try something like this for my 4th grade science class.

Dear Courtney,

It's not hard to breed guppies at all, it just takes so time and patience.It can take about one to one and a half months depends on if the conditions are right. I know i'm not much help now but just for future refrenc.:)

One of the easiest fish to breed. Just put a male in with several females and it will happen.When one starts gettig fat (really fat) seperat her from the rest. When the babies arrive just put mom back in with the others and keep babies seperate from the others until they are too big to be eaten. BE WARNED guppies are VERY prolific breeders and soon you could be over run Good Luck

I have a trio(1 boy 2 girls) of guppies

i really want to breed them and i just wanted to no if u had any breeding tips?

And my big female chases my male and other female. Also she wont let them near her 2 week old babies y?

what is the best way to get the pregnat guppy to have all of her fry alive. i have about seven pregnat females and i only have ten fry. i also had the adults for about four months now and they have only had ten. any answers?????

my 2male guppies and 12 female guppies have had 26 fry in 3 months. all i did was keep a male and 2 females in a breeding tank[2.5 gallons] for 3 weeks until one of the females got really fat and moved the others back after 1-2 weeks the fry had come so i moved the female adult back.

i have 1 female and 3 males and only 1 tank and that tank is only 2.5 gallons and my female is pregnet its getting a lot fatter what do i do i need to know if i need anything else or if im fine

because i only have one plant and one rock decoration?

Hey!

Well about the decorations, you don't need a lot of decorations for breeding guppies. It is said to be bad if anything. So let's start with your tank size, a 10-20 gallon tank would be good if your into breeding a lot. Giving the guppies space to move and swim is a good thing. You want to clean your tank regularly and having nothing inside is the BEST way. This makes cleaniny MUCH easier, because plants cannot interfere.

You say your female is getting pretty darker? Well I'm sure by now seeing the date she has already had a batch of "fry" (babies) and is pregnant again. You want to move her to a SEPERATE tank when you can start seeing her getting REALLY big because she will be able to have her drop at any time. If you have a specially designed tank for guppies to have babies that's even better but, a smaller tank is just as good if your not into spending a lot of money.

When she does have her babies, she'll be very thin and you'll know she is done with having babies because she will be abnormally thing/ or as thin as you would like her to ever be. Let her recouperate (recover) before moving her back into the main tank, where the males will emidiately start harassing her to breed again.

Another answer to a question:

Q:I was just wondering, how long after getting guppies does it take to get the female impregnanted?

A: A female has a sack where she can hold sperm and she may not even need to mate again with a male, she may already be fertilizing her eggs already. So it's not ALWAYS necessary for her to breed again.

ANSWER: All guppies have live babies, they don't lay eggs.;) If you don't move the pregnant females to a seperate tank they maybe stressed about where to have her babies. So I recomend moving them to another tank by themselves to have her fry. She can have a very little or a lot of fry. Another reason you may not have a lot of babies is because, a lot of guppies can/are be canibils (eats there babies) and that's why there maybe very few.

Again seperate the females when they become particulary big and then let them have all there babies, and MAKE SURE they are WELL recovered BEFORE returning them into the main tank or the outcome COULD, be dead fish. :(:(:(:(

Answer:

You have a lot of guppies then? I am supposing you have a large tank to accomodate that volume of fish? Just wondering because fish need space to;). Especially with guppies.

I am sure you have more than a few (which is 3). Out of the twenty I am guessing you have will have more, but that's just what I think.

{GUPPIES DON'T LAY EGGS}

They have live babies.Female guppies almost at all times if they are exposed to males and are age to breed will be pregnant. It will take a month or so, depending... (each type of guppie is different)

So go to google and look up "Breeding Guppies" to get more tips.... Ermkay?

Hi I have a guppy that is about 3-4 weeks old but I would like to know how long or how larg my guppy "Sqirt" has to be before I relese her into my tank. I've Heard that fry will reach there full size in 4-5 months if this is true then when should I relese my Baby into my tank.

I mean let's face it I don't want to go through all this trouble keeping my baby guppy alive only to have it eaten again.

well to breed guppies u first need one male to 2 female ratio then feed then frozen food keep them in a large tank if ossible also have a lot of LIVE PLANTS like hornwort, cabomba, wisteria plants like these will help the babies hide when they r first born plus its more natural when they r born feed them frozen baby brine shrimp. Just so u know Guppies r easy but they are the hardest of all the livebearers if u want to have baby fish try mollies, platys and swords also theres a cool livebear thats cloly related to the guppy and can breed with the females and that is a ENDLER LIVEBEAR

i am 11 and have been keeping fish for 3 years now. my Guppies have had 90 babys i took 30 out and put them in my another tank, i now think one of the babies is having babies. can this be the case as they are only 3 month old

i have two tanks, a twenty gallon and a seven gallon, the larger tank is full fishes like platys, mollies and other live bearers, im wanting to breed some guppies, should i breed them in the large tank with the other fishes and then move the pregnant guppy to the smaller tank to lay the fry? or should i do the whole process in the samll tank and then wait until it they get laid and then remove the parents?
