lemur

mike (152.163.34.118) -

my lemur has an infection should i take him to a vet or a zoo.

I don't think you need so many pets. You should donate your pet lemur to a zoo. But take him to the vet first to get him health first.

hey i have a lemur and its mike's pet he doesn't have to donait it anywere!!

I waant a pet lemur and i am in vancouver do you have a sugestion as of to where i should buy it?

Lisa is right, you should not have lemurs as pets. They are WILD animals and they are endangered. Endangered animals should not be pets, that's just wrong. If you don't even know where to get care for your pet you shouldn't even have a pet. I work with lemurs and they are very social, it is just wrong to keep them by themselves as pets. Lemurs are in facilities and zoos to help educate and for breeding programs to help the dwindling natural populations, not for your entertainment. Get a sense of responsible, do not get a lemur and if you have one give it to a proper facility.

EVER NOTICE THAT ZOO KEEPERS BECOME THE AUTHORITY ON ANIMALS. LETS SEE, HUMANITY, LOCK THE IN A CAGE, HAVE HUMANS/CHILDREN SCREAM ALL DAY AND TERRIFY THE CRAP OUT OF THEM. IF YOU NOTICE THE FILTHY CONDITIONS. BUT YET, THESE MORONS THINK THAT THIS IS A LOVING HOME!! I HAVE NEVER KNOWN ANYONE WHO OWNS AN EXOTIC PET TO EXPOSE AND EXPLOIT THEIR PETS LIKE THE POOR EXCUSE OF THE ZOOS. THESE ANIMALS NEED CARE AND A LOVING HOME!! NOT THE POOR TREATMENT A CAGED MUTIFILTH FACILITY, BREEDING BACTERIA. THESE PLACES STATE, "WERE HERE TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC!!" KEEP YOUR PET!! THE ZOO IS A FINAL RESTING PLACE AND TORTURE FOR ANIMALS(SHELTER).

wow that person doesnt like zoos lol idk about them but Brookfeild Zoo in chicago is pretty clean but Lincoln is so so

Lemurs are wonderful, wonderful pets. They are loved much better in a home than in a zoo. Take you Lemur to an exotic pet vet. You should have located one BEFORE you got the animal. Lemurs are only allowed in certain states so the Vancouver guy woul have to check the laws in that providence. I just got a baby Ring tail 4 weeks ago and it's the best pet I have ever owned. Dogs and cats were WILD animals once too.

Comment #8 Frobbet from Scotland -

i used to work with lemurs at woburn safari park, there ace and ye they may be endangered but as long as it was bred in captivity its not a "wiled" animal and cant be returned, so ye i would get in contact with a local zoo that you know has lemurs and ask them for the details on the vet they use (but dont expect it to be cheap)!!! anyway as the lemur is covered by the DWA act the enclosure u keep it in (given that u have the licence) must be sutable so fair doos!!!!

Mark......I like you. I agree that animals get more love in a home than in a zoo. So I dont care what the rest of you say!

keep the lemur mike. (:

Im gonna have to agree with mike, every pet we have today (with the exception of purposely bred dogs and what not) has once been wild. People never take into consideration that their pet was once wild.

How much is a lemur and how can i got about getting one? I live in PA and have to check on the legality of it all but I wanted to start asking as far as prices.

Lemurs are primates; they're very intelligent. I know they're adorable, but they're also territorial and highly social. They're unpredictable. In short, they don't make good pets for most people.

Yes, dogs were once wild, but how many thousands of years ago was that? They've been bred for life with humans; lemurs have not.

Why do you want a pet lemur? If you just want something cute or unusual, look elsewhere. If you're prepared to deal with an animal that has the intelligence, curiosity, and temper-tantrums of a small child, then you might consider whether or not it's right to keep a member of an endangered species for your own personal enjoyment.

Oh, and I forgot: they're essentially impossible to house-train.

Can You tell me please, where I can buy LEMUR???

HI, I am curious to were I can get a lemur and where I can look up all the necessity information to taking care of one. For all of your who are against having lemurs as pets, you are prolly expecting me not being able to be up to taking care of such a child like pet. In fact I am... I am very good with small children who throw horrible tanrums.. I think I can handle a little lemur who dose that same. If I wasn't so prepared to take care of it... I wouldn't be tryign to look up where to get ALL of the facts I need to keep a lemur healthy... like their diet, environment, what to keep them away from. All I'm asking is a link or somethign to help me learn how to take care of them... and where I can get one. Thank you for the help.

ME

PS E-mail it to me ^_^

I'm a zookeeper also and I think that some of you people are just ridiculous. I have pet primates and I love them and take care of them more than any zookeeper does in a zoo. Primates live longer in captivity than they do in the wild and are more healthy and with a better temperment. You people that say that they are wild animals and need to be in the wild need to keep these comments to yourselves. It is not illegal to have them and if a man wants a pet lemur and he will take care of it then he should get one. He asked a simple question and needs some advice and people like Lisa and James get in his business for no reason. Don't spit out whatever is on your mind...just leave it alone and do your research or talk to someone that actually owns primates and works with them too.

Zoo's wont help you. They almost never do and they wont see your animal since they don't want to ring an outside illness in. The zoo vet might be willing to talk to your vet though but almost never will talk to you, liability issues.

You know some people are just miserable. They are out there waiting to pounce on anyone. Take the Lemur for example. Ok it is an endangered species. If you have one for a pet and take care of it then that just makes 1 more OFF the endangered species list. So maybe the guy didn't do his homework before he bought..BUT at least he recognized that it could be ill and is trying to do something about it. He could just say F*** it like TOO MANY other people would do and let it die. So I say unless you personaly know someone and PERSONLY know the care they are giving to their pets, leave them alone. Instead of BERATING the man you could have performed a NOVEL thing and HELPED the man to HELP the Lemur you gto so high and mighty about. Since you recognized it is an endangered species, you should also know that there are probably not many VETS around to properly care for them without a bunch of guesswork. Here is an idea. If you say you are around them you could have asked the man the ill symptoms and instructed him how to CARE for it properly. But no, you just want to hurl accusations. Try being a little more considerate to HELP the animals you say you so graciously care about. All you did was waste words and breath and help NOBODY. Have anice day

People who think lemurs dont make good pets dont know what they are talking about they need to shut there face if they have never owned one who seen them in person!!!!

Comment #31 Charlotte (86.137.149.32) - Sun Sep 14 05:26:28 2008

OK people, I have never personally kept a lemur, but my uncle has, and so I'm going to give you his advice.

1. First, check on the internet for info. Some will be rubbish, but there are also sites filled with suggestions, and they can tell you where to buy books on lemur care (yes, such books exist).

2. Check that you know where an exotic vet is - that is, a vet that knows how to treat animals like lemurs. Ask some zoos who treats their lemurs.

3. Check on exotic pet shop sites. Quite a few can sell lemurs and things like that. But try to find breeders as well, cause then you can see the parents of your lemur.

4. Check with your local council that yourlemur is legal! You don't want to wind up in court cause you didn't check.

5. Make sure it has plenty of room to play in. Miaka (my uncle's lemur) loved toys that encouraged her to think (like balls with treats inside them). Ask lemur owners how their lemur's enclosure is designed.

6. If you have cats or dogs, then make sure that the cage is proof against them - and of course, the lemur.

7. Check on all of the lemur prices, but make sure that when you choose your lemur, you choose it for more than the amount of cash it costs.

8. Be gentle with it for the first few days. It will be frightened for a bit, but it'll calm down with regular handling. But give it space!

9. Well, that's all I can think of. Buckle up, because, as my uncle said, lemur keeping is one hell of a wild ride!

Comment #32 Katherine (66.76.116.13) - Tue Sep 16 21:39:41 2008

Hey, I live in Northern Arkansas, and would someone please email a place that sells Lemurs? And a place where I could get information on care?.....

and as for those who don't agree with having lemurs as pets....okay, have your opinion....and let those of us who want or already have animals have our opinion. The world is still spinning, so there's no reason to get mad

Comment #33 Bust it Baby MASTA (162.84.237.152) - Tue Oct 7 19:36:52 2008

Im only gana say this once aliight all of you shut the **** up first and listen to thisi. This is about people who wants information to get lemurs but some of you just say "NO NO Lemurs belong in the Wild or please please send them to the zoo" Damn it they get eaten in the wild and caged harmfully in a zoo. I admit having a zoo is good under certain exceptions but we all know we want a lemur who doesn't. They're practiclly famous . Ever heard of madadasgar every wants a lemur these day so how about u just tell us where to buy a lemur and shut up k. You can say what you want about your ass opinon anywhere else but not here. We want Lemurs am i right everyone. COMMON SENSE IDIOTS theres even a book about it so read it.

Also using the precedent from the Brandeburg case look it up

Some people might be killed or hurt.

My right to free speech i cannot be reported OR I WILL SUE AND BRING IT UP TO DA SUPREME COURT

PEACE OUT DAMNED FACINIST
