What should I do? Comment #1 Vicki (64.76.34.94) - This an excellent site that has a bunch of info about piranhas. I learned a bunch and they have some interesting ongoing things there. Comment #2 John (64.76.40.136) - Mike, how many fingers do you have left? Comment #3 MissyG (64.136.27.228) - From what I know, piranhas are pretty territorial. Also, if the other piranhas are smaller, they can be perceived as prey. I would suggest, as the easiest course of action, to bring your one piranha back to the pet shop (if you can) and buy a few or several to start out together. They will be more used to eachother and can grow up together. Comment #4 endora (24.45.126.104) - Are piranhas that great a fish to have or is it the novelty of them that is exciting? What do they eat? Do you have to keep feeding them live fish? Comment #5 wildcard from the swamp - Piranha are kind of interesting. And they are very territorial so if you want more than what you have already then you have to start them out together. What you put in the tank at first is what you get in that tank til they are all gone. Anything else you add later is just food. They chew the tails because they recognize another predator fisn so they cripple it to make sure it can't eat the food fish. When the food fish run out they'll go back and eat it sometimes, or sometimes they'll just ignore it and let it die. Either way it's no competition so they really don't care - just depends on how hungry they are. Comment #6 Eric (71.105.49.191) - I have always wundered if you put pirranahs in like the colorado river and threaten the USA with that would they do anything ps. just wanting to know because I would never do it!? Comment #7 Tony (62.30.110.33) - is it true that pirranahs can walk?? because i have found a new species that can walk and groan a lot in a checkered shirt!! can we shower 2geva? p..s i wudnt actually sleep wiv it Comment #8 Robb (70.50.62.152) - They other thing you could do is buy another tank, and let the other pirranahs catch up in size so they are bigger when you introduce them into the other tank with the bigger pirranah. Then they will get along, thats what I did and it worked!!! Comment #9 Jeff from IL - wow first ur tank is to smalll probably second when u put another fish in make sure they are similar sizes and then if u can redecorate the tank they should be fine Comment #10 Demetrius Greene (207.172.240.210) - Hello, Comment #11 shane from new jersey - i have 2 pianhas with 3 oscars and i have to say everything is going great.i totally disagree with everything i've heard about pirnahas in the same tank as oscars.if you can keep them fed, keep the tank healthy and provide time and patience you can pull it off Comment #12 larry (97.81.32.99) - well the first thing is how did you get 1 and the second thig it just dont buy any more then he cant eat their tails Comment #13 Roy (96.247.147.96) - Try removing your piranha and rearanging the existing tank it is in. Since they are somewhat territorial, when you put them both in the new surroundings together they will be in unfamiliar territory and should find their own space. This has worked for me in the past. Comment #14 Roy (96.247.147.96) - For Demetrius Greene comment #10, You should try a Red Belly. They are the easiest species to care for. Comment #15 RYAN (24.39.7.195) - wHERE CAN I BUY A PIRANHA.PLEASE GIVE WEB SITES AND PLCES. Comment #16 micheal lewis (82.13.103.175) - if you google (di ckless piranha) you will find that they sell many kinds of piranhas ect baby shark eggs. Comment #17 Sean (173.68.56.165) - well i have five red bellied piranaha for about 3 or 4 years now i started out wit 25 new babies when i got them n within the first year or so they challenged eachother picking off the week ones till the strong survied but my knowledg n overall learning of them is that they wont let any other animals in to the tank unless the can kill the strongest piranaha they run like a wolf pack more or less u could try to put a piec of plexy glass in the middle of the tank with hole drilled in it keeping your one piranaha on 1 side and a new goup of about 2 or 3 in this way fish react to smell and tast the strongest so ur 1 will become use to the other group without hurting them do this for about a month or 2 then remove the plexy glass n ur one should not atack just the normal roughing up of eachother i try to keep slow swiming goldfish in the tank about 40 to 50 of them and you could throw some beef heart in ther two other then that you should be fine Comment #18 Lisa-AnimalProtector from Ohio, The safe place. - What you should do is Not put other piranhas in the tank...? Comment #19 mr-shorty-mac form denver (8.7.69.28) - you can a more piranhas to your tank if it is big enough and they should also be about the same size it is recommended that for 1 piranha 30 gallon tank 2 and 3 piranhas you should have atleast a 55 gallon tank 3 and 4 piranhas 75 gallon tank 4 and 5 piranhas 110 gallon 5 and 6 piranhas 125 you get the picture i have had piranhas for over ten years i started with 1 now i have 12 and to buy piranhas go to www.aquascapeonline.com Comment #20 Vega (24.128.96.109) - Do not add any more fish into the tank, that is not fair to the fish who are getting their tails bit. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
