• Page 1 (Original Post) • Page 2 • Page 3 (Newest Replies) • dick (152.163.35.164) - my sons pet cougar tries to kill him every day what should i do about this. Comment #1 QTPie from the rainforest (Contact Member) - First off how old is your son? Because there is nothing YOU can do, he has to do it. It's all how the animal percieves ir's relationship with him and obviously this cat sees itself as the dominant in the relationship and is expecting your son to submit. So your son is going to have to change that and if this has been going on too long it's going to be hard. Does the animal respond to you the same way? If not then your presence might be helpful, but for the most part your son is going to have to take complete control and make the cat understand that he is the boss, not it. This is why big cats do not generally make good pets. Comment #2 Amber (69.133.144.157) - You are really stupid for coming here to ask that...... You should own the cat, please give her/him to a zoo where it can live a better life. Comment #3 Bradley (66.24.106.164) - Amber Everybody Hates You!You Say Your Son Has Everything So........STOP IT Comment #4 Julii (71.67.115.140) - OK, now first off, the cougar is probably just stalking him. THIS IS NORMAL BEHAVIOR, especially if your son is smaller than the cougar (which I imagine is the case). Now, your son has to establish dominance with the cougar (don't use violence...that would be the worst thing to do). Try contacting some sort of animal sanctuary to get more details. I'd try to help more, but my cougars typically don't stalk things after I've told them not to...Try having your son use a firm tone of voice and GENTLY bonk the cougar on the nose. Comment #5 Tsolias.Psolias (147.52.192.150) - hi there ... i am a cougar lover for the past years... so i would like to have one. i've been reading many info about cougar and all i want you to tell me is a link or some other info about a store or something like that to take a cougar Comment #6 LACHALN (202.182.65.204) - I LOVE COUGARS!!!! and have looked everywhere to buy one for the past year or so. eBay is no help at all. if u have a baby one i would love to have it send me and email!!! COUGARS FTW!!! Comment #7 callam (202.182.65.204) - i want a cougar i think they are cool Comment #8 Jenny Steinmueller (66.41.199.247) - I think that your son or who ever the owner is should surender the cougar to an accredit wild life sanctuary, like The wildcat sanctuary where i volunteer at. Cougars should not be kept as pets because they can be very dangerous when you are not properly trained to handle these animals. I am guessing that the owner does not have the proper enclosures to keep the cougar also which makes it even more dangerous to own. you can contact tws at their website or me for further information Comment #9 Wayde Forster from New York (Contact Member) - Are you all 12 years old?! I've raised cougars for over 20 years and I can tell you that none of you are ready. Of course it tries to eat your son-its a big cat-that's what they do! If you are inexperienced, slow, or stupid, they will hurt you. That is why they shouldn't be pets. Mine have all been given up by their previous owners because they thought they were "cool"-until they grew up. Comment #10 kim (69.19.14.33) - cougars can be good pets when raised properly! people need to stop making them monsters! the realality is people think it would be great to have one because they think they are so cute and loveable but they arent they are wild animals and can be dangerous. they will always have wild instincts even research cant prepare you for owning this kind of animal. i dont care if you have researched them for over 20 years! you cant possible kno how much work they are. they require lots of money, time, patience, love, understanding and much more. in some states they dont even allow cougars. also it would be a good idea to chek with neighbors and you must be prepared to go to court in some cases to fight for the rights to keep the animal which requires a lawyer. they are certainly not safe for little kids......14 or not! but like i said before they can make great "pets" , [i use that word very loosley!] in the right conditions. if the cougar tries to kill ur son then he needs to go to a no-kill sancutary. ther is nothing you can do. and punching or hitting a full grown cougar in the nose is definetly not a good idea! especially if you have'nt established your dominace to him as a young cub. this will only make the animal want to hurt you more. im sorry to say this but you dont seem to be a good owner at all! i suggest to get your son a cat or dog instead. good luck to you and everyone else in your search to hopefully find a different pet Comment #11 kim (69.19.14.33) - also, ebay doesnt sell live animals! you certainly dont seem smart enough to own a cougar! no offense Comment #12 tommy john (98.220.133.255) - what do you mean owning a cougar is a bad idea. . . if someone breaks in, it can bite their face off . . . snarf snarf Comment #13 Rolling Valley Endangered S (98.245.10.244) - OK...first problem is you're referring to the Cougar as a "PET"!! That's a big NO-NO!!! It's an animal you live along side off and treat it that way..when I first saw your question I expected Lynching..but there are some very considerate knoweledgable people giving you very smart advice! I was a child into animals..Costa Rican Gold Eyelash Vipers and volunteering at the Zoo by the time I was 13! I bred Cobras, Rattlesnakes and had a Cougar shortly after that..Fish and Wildlife took my Cougar back to the Farm I got her from because a neighbor had political connects and pulled the "Indiginous Species Law" on me...anyway my baby "Blue" was about 2 years old at the time and went to a new owner who she mauled..gave him over 1000 stitches and almost killed him..he shot her to death.....so that's my story....I was a different child and took grat care of my animals..as I still do today...would I let my child do the same I did...probably not..but my point is that taking a wild animal into captivity is a SERIOUS deal..and something you should think long and hard about before doing! Check your laws..see if your neighbors will have problems..do you have the food supply and a large enough space...if you're getting a cat or primate do you have the TIME to maintain a relationship with this animal??? That's probably the most important part...because they WILL turn on you and maul you for the smallest things if they feel you're not giving them enough attention!!! I have scars on my arm and muscle surgery from when one of my baboons got pissed at me one day..he bit right through my arm with 2 inch canines because I had an apple I wouldn't give him...you have to maintain your dominance but when they feel you're not around enough for them...then you lose respect...and when you lose respect you're ed! They are NOT PETS!! They are intelligent Wild animals that have extreme needs!!! If you slack just a little bit you and the animals are ed!!! Think about this please before you get into it!! Don't get me wrong here I'm not trying to be MR. Animal Advocate...I just want people to fully research before they get a wild animal..ESPECIALLY A CAT OR PRIMATE!!! If you're prepared and have the space..and have WORKED WITH BIG CATS BEFORE!!!!..then Cougars can be Wonderful Companions..if you haven't worked with cats before then you have NO business buying a Cougar cub!!! You can find a local zoo, Sanctuary, Breeder, or animal Shelter with Cats that will let you volunteer and LEARN about "Big Cats" behavior and read some books..but you WILL NOT get the info from books alone!!! You need to experience it first hand...there's tricks of the trade that could save you or your animals life! This is a SERIOUS MATTER!! And if you're serious about it then DO IT!!! Just do it right..PLEASE! For you and for the animal! Thank you for reading this and caring! ;D Comment #14 shaheen (70.149.168.227) - LISTEN! A COUGAR CAN B A PET! Comment #15 Wayde Forster from New York (Contact Member) - Rolling Valley-excellent reply! Shaheen-you are what polite people call an idiot. I'd like to invite you to try your method with any of my large carnivores. We could only ID the remains with DNA in my bear or cougar's feces. You have OBVIOUSLY never handled reall wild animals, so shut up until you have. Your "advice" could get somebody(you) killed. Comment #16 tabby (71.237.149.185) - OK.... A COUGAR IS A VERY BIG RESPONSIBILITY..I HAVE LIVED WITH AND AROUND MANY COUGARS IN MY LIFE...LIKE ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVE SAID YOU DO NEED TO SHOW THE ANIMAL WHO IS BOSS.JUST LIKE ANY OTHER ANIMAL..FOR SAY A DOG...TRY TO LOOK IT IN THE EYES AND SHOW NO FEAR AND IN A FEARSE YET CALMING VOICE TELL HIM/HER THE RULES...PEOPLE THINK ANIMALS ARE STUPID..BUT THEY DO UNDERSTAND YOU..IF YOU HAVE ANYOTHER QUESTIONS FEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT MY EMAIL... Comment #17 Hi! (24.21.24.88) - Think Sigmund and Freud, very exsperianced animal trainers. big cats of any kind are always wild and can be unpredictable! Comment #18 dude (97.106.102.250) - If any yall people out there live in australlia thats where a COUGAR LIVES! So i hope yall treat em' with respect because i do agree that they aren't dumb. They are intellegent animals and can be very interesting to watch. Also you can go to lionstigersandbears.org because thats a great website for wildlife. They can also be seen at big cat rescue. Thanks and have a great day. :) Comment #19 People (97.106.102.250) - SO you bought a cougar for your son? That a problem. You need professional people that work with cougars or " big cats". Well hope you get that problem fixed. Really i hope you do. Because that must stink. Also these blogs on what people typed is right. Ok bye Comment #20 tyson (66.172.174.2) - Our school mascot is a cougar....i want one for our school and bring it to games....and i agree with bradley Comment #21 cocksuka (86.170.201.126) - ur cougar tries killing your son, your stupid to have such an animal near your son... might aswel buy a lion and tiger and strap some bacon on ur sons ass! Comment #22 brian (198.140.4.205) - If it were up to me I would get rid of you're son and keep the cougar. Comment #23 brian (198.140.4.205) - Comment #14 shaheen (70.149.168.227) - Comment #24 Hotshot (86.146.200.212) - You know Dick I had that problem with the Grizzly I bought for my daughter I mean I could live with him emptying the garbage onto the drive but he took a fancy to her chicken nuggets and that was all I could bear. Mowing the lawn became a chore as he would bite the cable and cut the power it made me paws for thought. Since my daughter has now started catching live salmon with her teeth from our local river and chewing the bark of the oak tree in the garden, things have settled down a bit. The thing that really gets me though, is his waking up at 3am in the morning and whistling Moon River! • Page 1 (Original Post) • Page 2 • Page 3 (Newest Replies) •
