you people are sick! nobody should own a cheetah they are wild animals and deserve to have the life they deserve they are one of the most endangered animals on the planet and you guys are acting like hey are puppies! Did you know that they might be whipped out by 2025 and you guys are acting like they are nothing. I should report this but i want you to know that you are doing something very wrong and I hope you know that you have just ruined a cheetahs life by taming it I want a cheetah so bad i could die but I would never do something as horrible as that. Think about it, they are not tamed animals and deserve to have a life so let them have one unless its too late.

i can afford 1 but i dont know how and i love animals next when i hit college im majoring in animal surgen ...ect but how do u contact some one who has them or a place some 1 please contact me

Just a quick note it has been proven that Cheetahs do not mate in captivity, thus the only cheetahs you can obtain are wild. It would be counter-productive to take a Cheetah out of the wild as it could further impact their endangerment. Instead go buy a hairless cat as that should be exotic enough. Then you wouldn't have to import Gazelles for food.

acctually it has been proven that they can mate in captivity they simuate the strutter-bark (that is there matting call) and they noticed that it sent the females into ovulation and started mateing with the males and voala a baby was born IN CATIVITY

I have a cheetah and i raide him to work i bet he's faster than your car

Hi everyone, I live in the US, is it possible to own a cheetah here, and how can I get one?

Yeah, seriously people, thinking that owning such an animal would be "cute" is completely idiotic. To take care of exotic cats of these sorts, you need years and years of experiance, and a place to put them, where they would be happy, and out of harms way.

ancient arab kings had hundreds of cheetahs. being at the bottom of the big predator food chain in africa (below dog, lion, leopard, and hyena), they only get to eat something like 10% of their kills. supposedly pretty tame animals. anyone know how much they cost?

as far as them getting wiped out...i think domesticating them might prevent that from happening.

TOO ALL THE DUMBASSES SAYING CHEETAHS ARE FRAGILE...

THEY WILL LIVE LONGER THEN YOUR DUMBASS WILL IF U FORGET TO FEED HIM HE WILL EAT YOUR SORRY ASS SI SHUT THE UP AND TELL ME WHERE I CAN BUY ONE I DONT WANT A GOD DAMN HOUSE KITTEN I WANT A BLOOD THIRSTY CHEETAH TO EAT ALL 3 OF THE ONES I HAVE DAMNIT... THEY ARE NOT AGGRESIVE AND ARE VERY TAMEABLE SO STOP GETTING ON HERE AND ACTING LIKE AN EXPERT BECAUSE YOU READ OTHER PEOPLES COMMENTS DOES ANYONE WATCH ANIMAL PLANET UP IN HEA?

Raising a cheetah is not as easy as it may seem. They are very aggressive as cubs but once they mature they make excellent pets whether you want to believe it or not.

Recommendations to those who are interested.

1. DO YOUR RESEARCH!! Know every aspect of the beast inside and out. This will come in handy as most handlers like myself can tell you.

2. Unless you own at least 20 to 25 acres of land, a cheetah is not an ideal pet for you. Cheetahs require a great deal of space in order to get the exercise needed to keep them healthy. A cheetah can accelerate from 0 - 80 mph in just a few seconds so space is important.

3. DO NOT HAND FEED!!!! Cheetahs are natural predators and as such, must be treated as so. Most cheetahs will not eat from the hand of its handlers. They are predators so they need to kill. My cheetah (Rajah) is about 4 years old now, and is fed livestock such as lamb or beef in an area where she can naturally hunt. NEVER, hand feed a cheetah, as you risk serious injury.

4. Socialize with your cheetah as much as humanly possible. After they reach the age of maturity your efforts will start to pay off. A well socialized, well cared for cheetah like Rajah, will be VERY affectionate towards its master and will purr when petted and do what we call "Happy Paws" as would a normal cat. Bear in mind that they are a larger feline and their purr can be deafening at times. But all in all, they are very loving animals when trained and socialized properly.

5. <--MOST IMPORTANT. Get your Exotic pet license before you attempt to raise one. Trying to raise a cheetah in captivity without the proper knowledge and licensing is against the law as well as unfair to the animal. These are beautiful, loyal exotic felines and need to be respected just as they respect you as their master. If you don't care for the beast properly, they WILL turn on you. PERIOD.

6. If you have never owned an exotic pet before, I would not recommend a cheetah as a companion. Rajah was a blessing when I found her on the plains of Africa fighting for life. Her mother had been killed by poachers and she was left to fend for herself. Luckily I found her when I did. Now that she has matured she is very loving towards me, but ONLY me. She won't have anything to do with anyone else, but she won't outright attack. Cheetahs are flighters, more than fighters.

After reading these few guidelines most of you will think that raising a cheetah will be easy. Don't get me wrong, cheetahs are extremely easy to train. But unless you stay on top of them, constantly EVERYDAY, they will try to assert dominance over you and will turn on you. Training a tame cheetah is a long process and they will never lose their killer instinct and this must be remembered at all times.

All in all, unless you work in the exotic animal field, such as search and rescue, you really have no business having one. Rajah is a one time thing with me, as I would never want to take an animal as graceful and majestic as a cheetah out of the wild unless it meant its survival. I have tried on several occasions to release her back into the wild. But she will not go. So I'm stuck with her. But seriously, these beautiful cats are better off being left alone. They are much more graceful when observed in the wild.

I can supply any kind of wild animal from south africa as we are in the game capture business and we often come across baby animals or people bring them in to us where we pay the vets fees to get them well. At present i have 4 lion cubs, 2 baby white rhino, 5 adult cheetah, numerous specie of baby antelope, a baby giraffe etc. We also get the small cats like serval and lynx. Should anyone require any of these animals for good causes (pets won't work) then please feel free to email me.

Regards

Charles

Just to add to my above post - no animals are taken from the wild. Firstly this is africa and if you want to take a baby cheetah from its mom then good luck to you...........first you have to find them and second you got to catch them and then third you have to deal with mom who has 4 very sharp canines she would love to sink into your paw!! My email pwc.charles@gmail.com

Cheers

lots of you are saying not to feed by hand because they are prederters but so are dogs but you feed them by hand and some of you are saying they belong in the wild as thay are wild animals and should not be tamed but they are just like dogs pet cats lizerds birds cheetahs are no more dangeros than a dog they cant over power any one over 16 as there mosels are develeped for running if a cheetah is tamed right it shoud be fine you dont have to feed cheetahs gezzels any meat is good and just cos they are fast dos not mean they need lots of exisize they only run fast for a moment then they have to stop the need no more ex then a dalmashion

CHEETAHS ARE NO MORE DANGEROS THAM A DOG

sorry for my bad spelling

most acterdents happen cos thay now you are unsure and vonrerble you have to show how weekness with any animal wheter it a dog, or a cheetah

Stupid yanks, and stupid canadaians (and anyone else that wants to 'own' a wild animal). these creatures belong in the wild. No wonder our planet is in such a mess when there are people out there like you lot. God help us all (if he exists that is!).

Comment #96 Gonzo (75.186.80.153) - Mon Sep 28 17:47:33 2009

Those who are fimiliar with me, you know my policy on wild animals. If you keep their natural instincs intact(as in having it on a reserve that closely resembles their nateral habitat and feeding them so it's a challenge for them) and they are overall happy, and you don't harm it at all or keep it in a cage, then I'm okay. NEVER put a wild animal in a cage. And if you don't live in a place that is like a cheetah's natural inviroment, don't get a cheetah. If you do without having these circumstances, well you're just plain evil and selfish.
