fireants are a horrible pest in the southern states. they pose a deadly threat especially to any animal baby born outside. I know this sounds weird, but would anteaters be a solution. Could they survive in Texas?

^ Thanks. :O

According to the hippy logic here, in which an animal is still wild no matter how tame, docile and adjusted to captivity it is simply because it has not been bred for thousands of years, HAMSTERS are "wild" animals that no one should ever own.

That's right. Hamsters have not been bred for thousands of years. Not even 100.

So, why is a fennec fox that shows affection towards its owners, is docile towards people, and does not show stress in captivity considered a "wild" animal, yet a hamster is not?

Should hamsters and gerbils be banned from being kept as pets?

The tree huggers should also go look up the Russian Fox Experiment. 50 years in captivity and they got dog-tame foxes that were fine in captivity. Obviously, it does NOT take thousands of years to adjust an animal to captivity.

Also, just how long must an animal be bred before it is considered not a wild animal anymore? What are the requirements?

Sure, there are probably many exotic pets that are being abused and not cared for properly...but dogs are abused even more. I'd say they're probably the #1 abused "pet" animal. Should we ban dog ownership, and let only disabled people and law enforcement own dogs? If we ban exotics, the same crappy exotic pet owners will just get a domestic pet. Is domestic animal abuse less horrible than exotic animal abuse?

If the animal itself is not showing signs of stress and seems content, what is the problem?

Look up TamanduaGirl on Youtube...do those anteaters look like their quality of life is any less than the average dog?

My anteater is so much bigger than I thought they get. Looking back, I only bought it because it seemed hilarious. But it is an insane amount of work and it has taken over my house and the smell is unbearable. He will not #2 in my yard or in a caca box. He is still better off with me than in the car I bought him from. The sellers were just looking to make money and I doubt they even got him from a jungle, because jungle travel is expensive and they looked poor and they looked mischievous. They clearly knew nothing about animals because they said he was a hippo. Please do not buy an anteater and think it's hilarious and you can just give it bugs and pat them. They are so aggravating and have claws.
