Not entirely sure depending on the country. But in the United States you'd have to go through someone who carries a liscense to have and sell exotic animals. The buyer may have to be liscensed also and take classes depending on the state. I was looking up Fennec Foxes over the summer as possibly considering for a pet in the future. Some pet stores carry odd exotic animals. I've never heard of a genet, but there's a store in Washington called Wildside, that is selling one right now for around 3k. They are liscensed to carry such animals. I was thinking about going with an exotic rodent recently, but due to not being familar with vets who are familar with exotics I decided it wouldn't be the best for this time in my life.

IT'S A WILD ING ANIMALSO LEAVE IT IN THE WILD you arrogant human. You make me sick. I'd love to lock you up in a cage for the rest of your life - and feed and water you when I remember. Hey I might even clean your cage out every few weeks. You know how it feels now?

OK, now that we've established Sarah has an anteater...MAYBE SOMEONE CAN HELP HER WITH HER QUESTION....My first recommendation would be to take it to a vet that specializes in exotics. Anteaters require vaccinations-just like many exotics- and if he hasn't gotten them already that could be it. If he isn't eating, he could have some sort of a toxin in his system from a pesticide/ herbicide /insecticide. For that, once again, you'll need to see a vet. To get him to eat at least something, try cutting an orange in half and let him lick out the juices. The Vitamin C will do him good. Hope it helps, sorry I couldn't do more... Julii

Look up TamanduaGirl on you tube or google. Tamandua Girl maybe to help in the future with your questions. She had an experience with a very sick Tamandua and either vets were closed or people refused to see it. It is now thriving and very happy. The only thing I can suggest is if you're vet can't see the animal, is request help from a zoo or conservation who deals with exotics.

$600. Where are you located? Where did you get them. Where are you keeping them till they sell? What are you feeding them? I'd be interested but would want to know your legit, which is a nicer way of saying I don't think you are. I could really use another male.

Pygmies almost never survive captivity and if they do their lives are very shortened.

YOU ARE SICK!!!! Why would you lock up a wild animal? If you like them so much why don't you go live in the wild? ITS WHERE YOU BELONG!!!!!!!
Comment #17 LOCOSTAR (61.79.147.86) - Mon May 19 06:29:12 2008
Get over it you tree huggers. Its sad when you idiots focus your time and energy on simple crisap like this, and saving the Pandas that ran away in china, and saving the polor bear because the seals swim to fast and they cant catch and eat them. Whats next. PETA holding swim classes for the freaken bears? I hold a sign that reads "SAVE THE HUMANS".... Let's face it folks, if all the food on earth was gone, and a polar bear was on your scopes, a former starving PETA guy would be right by your side heating up the coals! Using animals for meat in in the book of ACTS in the BIBLE! Sorry, just venting... As for your anteater. Vet, any diaerea od discolored urine? Might be food poisoning

The fact that its in the bible should be enough to make you think twice about your views. It was written long ago, by many authors of dubious mental state, in an attempt to milk out money from the faithful-now that's venting. The most common problem with anteaters is dietary-but why are you asking us instead of the exotic vet you must have chosen before you got the anteater?

Hi, I would like to find an anteater to join our family farm. We are trying to go totally chemical free, but we have a terrible time with huge fire ant mounds. We have guineas and chickens, but they only roam so far from their roost. Plus, I am terrified that on of the kids is going to trip over one of these ant beds!!! If anyone is selling one, we'd love to talk. We love our animals - currently two horse, three dogs, five cats, a few rabbits here and there and one goose, but we are on fifty+ acres, so we have plenty of room. We would not cage it, but it would have a large fenced area to stay in when he wasn't free ranging. If anyone is interested in talking, my email is willshecamp@aol.com.

yea, cuz keeping anteaters as pets will make the planet uninhabitable. Besides, don't you think rising popularity in anteaters as pets would raise demand and therefore more breeders would pop up, eventually yielding more anteaters? Yea, they'd be more domesticated, but that's better than extinct, right?
Comment #25 al (70.210.129.245) - Mon Jul 21 16:35:03 2008
You do realize that dogs are wild animals? That parrots are wild animals? Exotic fish? hampsters? There's no such thing as a NOT wild animal. How the owner treats the animal is a whole different story.
