What is this animal?

Can someone please tell me what is in my house? As I talked on my phone a small black animal with large black eyes, round ears and a flat tail came out from under my couch. I had heard scampering noises in my attic for some time and thought I had regular squirrels. This animal seemed to be tame. It did not run from me and actually allowed me to put a trash can over it. I then released it into a bird cage thinking I had it trapped. Wrong! It flattened itself out and came right thru the bars. Again it did not run but climbed on top of the cage and looked at me. Not knowing what to do or trusting it not to bite me I sat the cage outside. It sat with me watching it for awhile then climbed the brick back to my attic. It does not look like any picture of a flying squirel or sugar glider I have seen. It is very beautiful and it's coat was very soft [I touched the tail while it was in the cage] WHAT IS IT!

I think the more important question may be how to get it to move out of your attic!

sounds like a chinchila. they are amazing pets, but some people get tired of them and think they can be released. the poor lil guy is probably lost or needing care. call your local ASPCA or such and they may have some tips for you.

My guess is either a sugar glider or a flying squirrel, depending on where you live. And i doubt it was a chinchilla since chinchillas aren't the most graceful flyers, gliders.

NOT a chin I raise them they cant climb or flatten itself.

All of these ideas are pretty scary. I would be so scared of some little animal running around my house.

Ok I am curious post a pic, Muskrats have flat tails but not furry tails. sounds like some kind of squirrel.

It sounds like a mouse lemur- but I really doubt that, because they only live in Madagascar.... but just google image it, and see if it was it =)

I bet it is some breed of cat.
