'URGENT! Pet Monkey Warning'

Many people are finding advertisements for Pet Monkeys that will be shipped to you from Cameroon.

There are only two problems you will encounter here:

1) It is a complete fraud. Whatever money you send will be gone forever, and you will never be sent a monkey. After you make the initial payment you might get requests for further payments for various problems. You may be sent "tracking numbers". You may be told to put a "password" on your western union payment. None of these things will get you a monkey or protect your money.

2) *IF* (and isn't gonna happen)... IF someone ACTUALLY SENT you a monkey, it would be seized by the U.S. Customs Service as you cannot import monkeys as pets. There is also a mountain of paperwork and liceneses required to import monkeys for legitimate purposes.

Save your money... so not order a monkey or any other animal from outside the United States (or from anyone in the United States that will have it sent from outside the United States)....

and you probably don't want to order any pet... go find your pets at a local shelter where you can get it know it in person first.

Can you please help my. I order a capuchin monkey through your adds in cameroon, pay for it and did not received it. The lady that is supposed to be the breader is called Michelle, her husband is Pascal Sakam. The guy from Jet Pet Express is called Sandy and the answer something Orange when I call. Me and Michelle had an agreement that I pay have of the money and the rest at delivery. I pay in the R 2 500,00 like we agree on Thursday the 7th of September, the monkey was supposed to be delivered Friday the 8th of September, I did not happen. Michelle called me and said the huminidy is too high, the monkey cannot fly but I will defenitely receive the monkey on Monday. Then the so called Jet Pet Express calls me and say they have to deliver the monkey and I have to pay R 1500.00 South African Rand for taxes, the monkey is stucked in Botswana, they keep her their because I have to pay the tax first. After I pay the breeder R 2 500.00 for the monkey. Then they call me again on Thursday the 14th of September, convince me that they have to rescheduled the flight and I have to pay another R 1 500.00 for the flight to take off.All by money gram in South-Africa. Unfortunately I did not receive the monkey and it seems that they take me for a ride. I lost all my money and was taking for a ride. Untill now no monkey, no money, Michelle and Jet Pet Express don't answer their phones, sms or e-mail. The particulars of the breeder are as follows:

You will * NEVER * receive a monkey from Cameroon or any place else! You will probably * NEVER * receive a dog or other animal either.

It does not matter what these people say. There are no animals for you, only money for them.

If you have any doubts call the Cameroon Embassy or the U.S. Customs Service to find out about importing monkeys for pets.

Customs will stop the monkey (and maybe even fine you)... but there are no monkeys so no worry.

Don't buy anything online unless you use your credit card so you can dispute it with your bank if you don't get anything.

You are always safe buying online with a credit card. If you don't receive the merchandise, you can dispute the transaction with your bank and get your money back.

That is why those selling monkeys want the money by Western Union. There are no refunds with Western Union.

I absolutely agree with Kabir though. Get a pet that you've seen and handled. There's no way to judge of the pets personality is good for you unless you are ther in person with it.

Before you decide to buy ANY exotic pet you need to do some research. Find out first if they can even be brought in to your country. Then, can you have them in your area? After that you need to check about licensing and any kind of special insurance or other requirements. Then and ONLY then if all is ok should you start looking for one. And if they are legal in your country then chances are there is someone in your country who has them for sale. Go see them, the animals and the environment they are being raised in. Pick one you like that gets along with you in person.

If you are buying from the internet, the research the seller, find out if they are licensed and anything else you can. And any seller that wants Western Union is probably scamming you. Reputable breeders and handlers have reputable payment plans and usually will take credit cards, PayPal and other payments. Money orders and Western Union are for scammers.

I recently sent over $1800.00 to cameroon airlines and to the sender Mr. Camela Magan for a baby capuhin monkey. I was sent all of her permits, and she made it to france 2 times and was sent back to cameroon so i was told, the airport has been very rude to me and sometimes they will answer my messages and take my phone calls but other times they want. The sender has lied to me so many times telling me she is on her way and everything will be ok. But everything is not ok. This was all the money we had for our 2 daughters for christmas and now its gone and so are my daughters christmas this year. I have been in contact with the American Embassy in Cameroon, and the United States International Air Travel, I'm pressing charges on the sender Camela Magan and anyone else that is involved in this matter. So don't buy anything from Cameroon because they all lie to you.

There is a guy named Victor Ngwati from Cameroon who claims to send capuchin monkeys to people in the US for $800.00 to $1200.00 he claims to fly them through some airport there called city pet express. HE IS FRAUD I did not send him money and I am hoping no one else does either you will not receive anything but empty pockets.. Do your research...

please do not trust DR GORDON FROM JAHANNESBURG he was giving a capuchin girl (lily) for adoption of course i jumped st the chance but he wanted shippin fee i said that i wouldent pay untill i see the monkey so he agrred to pay the shipping fee but said when i get to the airport i had to pay £300 so i agreed he gave me all her flight information threw air france and even someone from this so called air france (van shirly) manager emailed me with info of lily's flight so i was pretty sure she was coming he said she would be there at 4.am so i went to the airport but there was no such flight they said it could be the 7.50 flight so i waited but she dident turn up after several hours of waiting in the airport i decided to go home i had an email from a man claiming to be the international airline vet bagio sean buchin was his name he even had a uk number he said that my pet monkey has arrived and all her paperwork permits and heakth check was fine if i send 300 threw western union i could collect her but he would not give me an address so i told him my deal was to see the monkey first after this non of them would repley any of my emial so obviously i knew this was a scam a very convincing one so if this sound familer BEAWARE and look out for all the names in my message. good luck

I just had this very thing happen to me only I did not buy the monkey when she said it was comming from Camroon. Exotic or other wise can not be brought into the states ! Please stop falling for these scams and take the time to research....If it is a pet monkey you really want respect it enough to know your rights and responsiblity in being a monkey owner. Even when purchasing a exotic put in the states some states still do not allow them and some require permits. So by all means take the time to check into the laws before throwing you money out the window.

I had this happen to me but Western Union stoped it for me and told me it was a scam. I thank them for it, I would have lost 3000. I still buy everything only but only use paypal, order from in the usa (unless its ebay) and never send anyone you don;t know a moneyorder, check, or cash.

Hi there, I was researching recently on Capuchin monkeys, and a man was selling a girl named lily for $155.00 U.S., he claimes he had just moved from the U.S. and lily who was 10 weeks old did not like the weather in Cameroon and wanted to give her a good home and hte $155.00 was only for shipping, no extra costs. Then when I wired the money through WU he asked me for an additional $250.00 U.S. because the airpet shipping airline would not take her in a wooden crate and he had to purchase an airconditioned crate I told him I did not have that kind of money and the $155.00 was agreed apon so he asked for $100.00 and he would cover the difference. Of coarse being stupid I sent through WU another $100 the next day I had a call from Fombu Willy letting me know that she is in France and they want a $500.00 refundable insurance deposite or they will send her to the zoo, or ship her back to Cameroon. I told him I had no other funds available and if he wanted to pay for the $500.00 refundable insurance and once she arrives to Canada he would receive that money backthen he tried to see if he could get $100.00 and see if he could get the rest from a friend. I then replied that I have contacted the France airport and there is no such airpet shipment plane and no airline has come in from Cameroon, he then hung up the phone and I haven't heard back since and he hasn't returned any of my e-mails. DO NOT PRUCHASE ANYTHING FROM CAMEROON THEY ARE ALL JUST SCAMMERS!!!

It just breaks my heart that people do things like that in the world. I live in the U.S and I have a pet monkey. I have a special permit to raise exotic pets. Please do not trust anyone who wants to ship a monkey. It is illegal to own a monkey in the Uninted States;Sorry!!

i refuse to agree to this as there must be a few reliable sellers, or hw else do people own them. even if its just 1 reliable seller for every million scammers. i am determined to be that one even if i have to pass every scam thrown at me to get there and i think you other people who wish to be monkey owners should be thinking the same positive thought. ive thrown too much away to give up and im gonna keep trying untill i get there.im 16 years old and have dreamt of owning a mokey since i was like 8years old. i am dealing with the purchase of my monkey and my mum is paying. ive had around 20 offers in the month or so ive been searching and have not yet been scammed. dont give up people. you get what you give, so give it your all. you will find your monkey you just have to use your head before letting your heart win. you cant be scammed if you dont let it happen.

dont give out any money prior to the arrival of your baby.

try find a breeder local enough for pick up in person and be prepared to travel because evn if you need to pay £100 train fair it has to be better than paying £1000 to a scumbag scammer.

if you cant find a local breeder and are forced to have your monkey shipped then do check ups to match company names and phone numbers through directory inquiries. and hand over as little amount as possible of money untill your primate arrives.

It may be different in North Wales... but in the United States those who own pet monkeys *DID NOT* get them from outside the country.

It is illegal to import monkeys into the United States. If by some chance a person in the USA found your so-called 1 in a million monkey seller that wasn't a scammer (I say it is 0 in a million) then they would be arrested by the U.S. Customs Service for illegal importation of a monkey.

Hi guys, any offer business or property or pet off from Africa is 99.99% a scam. They are like cockroaches, the scum of the earth, always out to scam money because they are too lazy and stupid to get a real job. there are certian things in a scam mail that make it a scam, they spell like they look, the tens eof English is all wrong..and as everone knows with the CITES act exporting and importing of exotic pets is a laborious affair, and these idiots that say they have the pets are dumber than the pets they say they have.

these people are hearless...not only were they going to accept money from my daughter who is a minor and recovering from a long battle with cancer but also feed on her disappointment of not being able to have children because of her extensive chemo and radiation treatments. telling her this would be just like having a baby. it breaks my heart that they could exploit ill children as well as our common pet lover. shame shame shame....one day they will have to answer for it and i will be at the front of the line...when the people responsible are caught...thank goodness i checked into this before any money was exchanged ...

And if by some chance a monkey actually made it to the airport in the USA (don't get your hopes up *ALL* the monkeys for "sale" are a SCAM!). You would be arrested by the U.S. Customs Service for illegal importation of a monkey.

Wow..I almost actually sent the money, then I ran across this. IT was a guy trying to sell a Capuchin Monkey from Cameroon. He said $600 but I got him to lower it to $200 then he said to use Western Union cause it's faster and that he was going to pay the airfair with the money I sent. I asked for a more spesfic place of where he live. He said VIctoria Town Cameroon, I read this and said, so you live in Africa? Then he freaked out and was like umm NO! I said I live in Kansas City Cameroon, USA. I laughed and told him there is no such place. I told him he wasn't going to scam me. Then said I was going to report him for scamming, fraud, and for trying to illegally import exotic animals. He started getting scared and was like your to poor to afford a monkey, you can only afford $200. I told him I had tons of money and hes never going to see it. Then he stopped messageing me.

He said his name was Clerose Love (Odd name) and that he was selling his baby girl. Sadly now he has all my personal info..(Address, cell and house number, etc

I had almost the same thing happen yesterday, I was looking for a baby Capuchin in the TX area and found an ad in TX that said they were selling capuchins for $2500, I e-mailed them and asked if they had any baby capucins available and I got an e-mail the next day from a kket89@yahoo.com saying that I could adopt one for free, they sent three pictures of an adorable baby capucin and said her name was Nina and she was 14 weeks old, and they even asked a lot of questions like am I a breeder, and do I have any kids, and where I was located, I told them I lived near Austin and I wanted to come out and see the monkey and I asked where they were located at and gave them my cell, and then they sent an e-mail back saying they were actually in New York but they could ship her to me, and they gave me an odd contact number 01123774212701, the spelling and grammer were bad, which raised some red flags, and I found it funny that they never gave their name at the end of the 3 e-mails they sent, it just says thanks..., then I realised somrthing was up. I checked around on some more sites and found the exact same picture of Nina that the person e-mailed me, it was on a different post from 6 months prior, I was like WTF, then I checked up on sites like this that talk about all the scammers out there saying they're selling monkeys but they just want to steal your money. now I knew it was a scam, and I e-mailed them back and told them this and they never replied, I won't buy any pet from anyone unless I can actually see them in person, this sucks. Now I feel like I want to go out and breed capuchins for all the people who got scammed like this, I would have a nice reputable buisness.

This is fake, I know it, I just want others to see an example of someone trying to scam you by telling you they will sell you a pet and then steal your money and give you no pet. Is there a way to track these people down, can we do anything about this at all? hopefully this can educate some.

Its a good thing I read up on sights like this, otherwise I might have been a little too trusting, and gotten ripped off. Mike

It's not illegal to own a monkey in the USA or Canada. It often is in your state, city ad county(or providence). Endangered animals can't cross state lines. They are also trying to make it illegal to transport any primate across state lines. This means you can't ever move with your monkey.

I have contacted many people selling capuchin monkeys all of which have been scams. They have all taken pictures from a website called elams.org. Now I will reference that website when looking at ads. I have also filed complaints regarding this. I hope they do a sting and bust all of these people. Baby capuchins sell for $5000-8000 from breeders here in the US. And doesn't anyone watch the news or read the paper-these scammers are like folk heros in their native countries, and the stories are reported everywhere. I think most of the people who try this think they are getting away with something-my father worked vice and always said you can't con an honest man. I also was looking for a monkey I sent out 31 e-mails on Capuchin monkeys and EVERY ONE came back from Cameroon. Now I was smart enough to not fall for it, but I took it a step further. There is an American Embassy in Cameroon, I e-mailed them with all 31 e-mail addresses so that they can hopefully track these people down. If you look on the Embassy's web site there is a whole section about Cameroonian scams. I urge everyone who has been taken advantage of and even those people who caught on to e-mail the Embassy in Cameroon with as much information as you can.

Here is some more information about this same scam. This woman is "from" Quincy, IL and currently in Cameroon for a clinic of some kind. She states that her job does not allow time for the monkey, who is a 13 week old Capuchin whose name is Precious. She wants only $700 for her to ship her to me from there. She comes with all papers, fully vet checked, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and 100% healthy. SHe also comes with authorization papers to get her through customs and into any country or state. (They are getting smarter.) They included pictures of a Capuchin clinging to a stuffed bear. The woman also stated that she would include her huge cage, custom outfits with diaper covers, a supply of her current food, a list of her diet, and her toys. SHe had horrible grammar and little to no punctuation in her sentences. When I told her that I would meet her at an airport to make the switch, she insisted on the money ahead of time to get them here. I refused and didn't hear from her again. Fortunately, I was not stupid enough to be taken by this scam, but here is the email address if anyone is interested in obtaining it.

It is NOT illegal to own a pet monkey in the United States. It is BANNED in some STATES, and requires extensive licensing in others, but not in all states. You need to do research into your LOCAL laws and legislation before assuming whether or not you can own a monkey.

It IS ILLEGAL to IMPORT a monkey from outside the US, but if you are purchasing (or "adopting") from a rescue inside the US, you are fine... so long as the monkey was bred inside the US.

Yes, the fact still remains that somewhere, someone smuggled the poor ancestor of your little monkey into the US, however, as long as YOUR monkey was bred and born in the United States, it is not illegal.

The person who keeps claiming that it is absolutely illegal to own a pet monkey in the US needs to explain where the got this information and why they feel it is absolute across the board. Show me a source.

I was almost scammed by a person from Cameroon, as well as some of you. I was told that I would be adopting from a lady who lived in Los Angeles (which, by the way, the above site shows has a ban on the ownership of pet monkeys). When I contacted her and expressed my interest and my willingness to drive up to meet her and see the monkey, she explained that it would be difficult because she "recently relocated to Victoria, Camaroon" and that all I would have to do is pay for the shipping. Needless to say, that had SCAM written all across it, but I played it for a moment, expressing my uncertainty of the cost for shipment, etc. which is when she replied that all I would need to do is give her my information and send the money and she would ship the monkey "today".

I felt it neccessary at that point to remind her of the local laws regarding shipping monkeys from Africa and felt I should "update" her on the CITES Act that prevents this type of shippment. If she truly cared for the poor creature, she should save it the hassle of being crated up and shipped across the ocean just to be seized by Customs and sent back... The poor thing might not survive. But, as in most of these scam cases, there probably was no monkey in the first place. Good thing I had a smart enough head on my shoulders to do some intellegent research into it, before forking over any money.

Good luck out there! My biggest advice is to do as much research as possible; don't act in haste. If you truly want a pet monkey, do the research, for your protection as well as the safety of the creature. If you are ment to have one, waiting a little longer to do adequate research into obtaining and caring for one will only strengthen your chances of obtaining one.

I probably should have mentioned in my earlier post that ANY type of shippemnt of exotic animals, such as monkeys, are illegal according to the CITES Act. So don't get it in your head that you can adopt/purchase from a local breeder/rescue and have it shipped to you from anywhere outside the US.

Let's use our heads here... If the monkey is coming from anywhere OUTSIDE the US, according to CITES, it is ILLEGAL. If the monkey was born inside the US, purchased inside the US, and shipped inside the US, UNLESS YOUR LOCAL LAWS DO NOT HAVE A BAN ON THIS TYPE OF PET OWNERSHIP, it is not illegal; you may need to research into your local requirements for registration and licensing, however.
