Raccoons on the run

What's worse, raccoons act nothing like what is expected from their cuddly, teddy bearlike exterior.

"Raccoons are, they really are vicious," Elwood said. "The skunks, they're very, very docile. You can almost pet one. But raccoons — don't give them a chance or they'll get you."

Oh Yeah, they are nothing like the cute cuddly little guys from cartoons. We had a trio that hung out around my mom's house. She used to put food out for them at night. Then one night one of her cats came into the bedroom just howling, growling and spiiting and led her to the cat food - where all 3 were snacking on the food and scattering the closet trying to get at the bag with the rest. When they saw her they came at her and followed her up the stairs til she grabbed a broom and chased em out of the house. After that she brought the cats in and locked the pet door at night and stopped feeding them hoping they'd go away.

you talking about a wild raccoon?? of course.. you try to pet one and they are gonna getcha!

If one appears to be friendly... It was either hand raised.. and someone let it go.. ( still not exactly friendly... unless its still very young)

or... It is sick.

well you cant really go up to any wild animal and pet it..however if it is a PET raccon they are very nice if you raise them right!

When I was young all the kids in my neighborhood used to go to an older mans house at night and he would give us cheese curls to feed skunks! The skunks were always real nice but we never tried to get to close and pet them. They came right up to us and ate the cheese curls right out of our hands, it was so cool.

Mrs. Lundquist, Just opposite to your expeirance with wild animals, I had a pet raccoon named Jasper who was so friendly he'd sleep beside me. Later during his lifetime he got to where he would only let me pet him if he was on an object taller than me. Among my other wild animals, I use to breed and sell skunks. My male skunk was very vicious. One day he bit the side of my finger and I could feel his upper and lower fang teeth meet each other inside my finger. I should have seen a doctor for it, which I did'nt. But in a week it healed up. My female skunk however was docile and friendly. I knew someone who had a female skunk that was docile except during their breeding season which is in March and April. During that time she was mean. You can't simply group species of animals and say, "These are docile and these are mean". That all varies among each individual animal.
