Raccoons forever

JUDY from WHEREVER ANIMALS LIVE,USA -

Last spring, a little baby raccoon apparently rolled off my neighbors roof when it was 98 degress outside. I was alarmed when our two German Shepards were barking their heads off. As I checked it out, it was a baby raccoon about 5 weeks old and I saw its mother on the neighbors roof with another baby next to her shadeing in the shade under the 2nd story soffit panting like a dog. I noticed his back leg hurt him when I picked him up as he cried and the fall from the roof was far to the ground. We use to raise them when we were kids and our cousins gave them to us orphaned from raccoon mommies squished on roads by autos and the babies recued and given to us. Anyway, Iwe took him in and placed him in a small pet taxi after we tire him out. We named him Rocky, after the song on the Beatles White album, Rocky raccoon. Rocky was the size of a softball and very friendly. Rocky was feed every 4 hours with a kitten baby bottle and fed him Kitten Replacement Milk or KRM, found at Petco. The small baby bottle, I had to stick many needle holes in it for Rocky couldnt get enough, I mixed in the 4 oz bottle Baby Rice powder about a teaspoon of luke warm water. Alway after feeding I burpped him like a baby. I patted him jently on the back till buurrp! After feeding I placed him back in the pet taxi with a double paper towel on the floor of the pet taxi and we put a hot water bottle in it. Rocky would lay comfortly on it. We had the pet taxi in our badroom on the floor with the bedroom door always closed so it was quiet and so the two dogs and cat wouldnt bother him. They are like a BABY and they need alot of atention, "LIKE A NEW BORN BABY CHILD!" I fed him around the clock evey 4 hours till he slept threw the night and always cleaned his pet taxi and layed paper towels in it for his pittles. We eventuly moved him in a chinchillas 3X3X3 Pen. I dont like the word cage for I dont want to incarcerate a wild animal because its just not right for Im nurseing him an not allowing him to be road kill. They are very passionate creaters of God. It will be a sad day when we release him back into the wild as we did as kids. Now rocky is 8 months old and has the run of our big basement and he makes himself right at home. He lives inside a bar size pool table and he plays pool with the balls. Rocky gets a bath weekly in the bath tub with Johnsons Baby shampoo. He loves the tub for he hops around like a bucking bronco in it when the water flows out of the fauset. Rocky gets at least 2 hours with us playing. The 2 dogs love to play with rocky and he leaves the cat alone and the cat likewise. Its very important to give your baby a tablspoon of " HARTZ RID WORM LIQUID" once a month to ensure that he dont pick up the worms or the eggs from carried in from the outside dogs, cats or even ower bottom of shoes. If you close a door so your raccoon cant get in, they WILL rare up the carpet or anolium floor if you let them. I'm retired and stay home with Rocky and give him full attention. Last summer I took Rocky for rides on my shoulders and he'd place his hands on top of my head and sometimes he'd place his little hands over my eyes like if he thought it was a game. We'd take him with us camping in our tent trailor, for just a ride in the van. Rocky at this day he'll pittle or pooop in the pet taxi on the paper towel when we go anyware. We even got Rocky in our churchs directory with us. Rocky started to eat IAMS dog food about 2 months after God gave him to us. Last year he would follow me outside even when we took him to moondance jam, 4 day rock and roll at Walker Mn, or the St. Croix Chilli feed, people would be amazed to watch rocky tag along like if I were his saraget mother, inwhich I was and still am. What is read of all who wrote about their raccoons is true. Raccoons are the most exotic, most friendly, most funny, intellegent, creature that god made for man not to cage or breed them for their amusement but to repect them with love. My 22 year old son passed away of a accidentle drug overdose April 27 2005 which he had everything going for himI miss him DEARLY (tears falling). I Think God gave me Rocky or the help of Justins spirit to help me to not be so sad. Rocky sucks my thumb as were lying on my pillow and we both fall asleep, only to be awaken by him trying to dig in my mouth

Bad weather caused a tree to fall killing the mother raccoon and I found a very young baby. Have been feeding since last night and seems to be doing fine, but the thing I worry about is the rabies and other problems. could anyone point me in the right direction
