Preventing "eggbound"

I recently lost my wonderful Burmese Python. She was 7 years old and almost 18 feet long and had been hand fed from the time she hatched. This was one of the tamest, most people oriented snakes I have ever known. Unfortunately she got eggbound and died. I have a male and another female and I am worried that I could also lose the other female. Does anyone know what causes this and how to prevent it? Or even how to diagnose it before it's too late?
