My raccoon is suddenly ill.
Rowdy's Mom from N Carolina -
My 14 year-old raccoon was fine this morning, but when I came home he was lying outside of his house on his kennel floor, panting profusely with a small amount of saliva coming out of his mouth. The pads of his back feet were cool to the touch compared to his front pads and he was not able to walk. I have given him some sugar water and over the last few hours he has drank several times on his own and has recoverd most of his motor skills, but moving about tires him quickly. He disposition is calm, and I cannot find any areas that are painful and he gives no signs of being in pain. My vet is not reachable till tomorrow and I have no option but wait. Any idead on what to do while I wait?

It sounds like he may have had a stroke. At his advanced age, I wouldn't be surprised. There may not be much your vet can do, so keep him comfortable and watch for signs of a recurrence.
