Foxes living under deck
James (3) from Central North Carolina -
I live on about 6 acres in an area of lots of similar size. It's a dense hardwood forest. Recently four foxes...I think they are related adolescents...have taken up residence under my deck. They are quite fearless of me and actually I don't mind them hanging around except that I have three indoor/outdoor cats, one of whom is quite small though fully grown. I'm concerned about the foxes attacking the cats and the possibility of disease transmission (the cats' shots are all up-to-date). Two of the cats (including the small one) sleep inside at night without fail. I have seen the foxes out during the day, however.Should I be concerned?

I have 2 fox that visit and eat at my feral cat feeders. They never bother the cats and they don't normally prey on cats. I wouldn't worry about it.

Definately be concerned. Unless the foxes were domesticated from birth or near birth, they can definately give in to their instincts and attack the cats if they feel threatened or have trouble finding food.I'd reccommend shooing the guys away, or (humanely) trapping them and taking them to someone who actually wants them (and would treat them humanely) or a patch of remote forest area (safely from people) and releasing them a bit of a way into the woods from main roads.

Oh my god you would shoot a fox just because it was under youre deck. I think you should ignore them I have done much research on foxes for I want to own one in the near future and they will not attack your cats. They will protect themselves if your cats attack them (Highly unlikely) But they wouldnt harm your pet otherwise.
