Fox for a pet info?

Thank author of this post/commentI was hoping that some people on here could spare some information on owning and caring for a Red Fox/Arctic Fox.

I'd want to know what and how to do things before I got a permit and go legally buy one.

Also, if anyone could throw in some tips on attracting red fox to yards for observation purposes, that'd be great.

Woah! what made you decide to take care of an arctic fox? That's really some exotic pet, but not as exotic as IKA my iguana pet.

Does anyone know where I can get a Red Fox?

I live in Texas, and my boyfriend and I would really like to rescue one from a fur farm or adopt on from a shelter.

"Sorry but you can't have one there"

Bountykat and Riku (maine and texas do not allow foxes to be kept as pets) I did my research on all 50 states and sorry both of those are no.

Okay, first of all, when you buy a wild animal, it shouldn't be legal. They will probably run away anyway when they grow up.But when they are babies, they are pulled from their parents and this is very cruel. They should stay in the wild and not your home.If you buy from this business you will only be feeding the cruelty.

foxes do live longer in captivity than in the wild (foxes are practically domesticated as it is) It's just that there are alot of irresponsible people out there who think they can take care of them. They are still exotics and need some special care (health) It's difficult to find vets that will vaccinate them etc. And foxes don't eat kibble so they need certain foods. And of course they do need to have lots of space to run around i don't think keeping them in cages should be considered at all. So overall, foxes do make great pets but they need ALOT of care and very little people can actually provide them with that. And shouldn't a fox live a nice long happy life without having to worry about predators or when they will have their next meal? Foxes are alot more like lap dogs you know.

Foxes are not domesticated, really. They are still wild. But if you are talking about the domesticated silver fox, sure.

Thank author of this post/comment"Nope "

I'm pretty sure most fox species are either domesticated or close to it. Fennec foxes are practically domesticated it's just that the law says they aren't quite there yet. You need to know the difference between what laws say and what the fact of the matter is. Just because the state says it is non-domestic doesn't mean that as long as it is written, the animal will never be tame. Ask ANY owner of any fox and they'll tell you that they are just like a house-cat or a lapdog. Foxes are pretty much tame but like any domestic animal, they do have their downsides. Maybe such as play biting or tearing up the house XD But foxes do tend to be more energetic than a lazy cat.

That is so stupid! What idiot started taming those poor things?Anyway, there will always be wild foxes.Foxes especially need to be wild, because of their cunning and free spirit.Nobody can call themself a fox lover who denies freedom to one of them.

Thank author of this post/comment"Who's denying freedom?"

Seriously who? You? And it was a very smart idiot who stared taming them. You cant call whoever owns any exotic animal crazy or unloving just as you cant call Hitler a madman for trying to create a master race. I think the idea was rather charming. I like blondes. Don't you? America f**k yeah.

A fox can make a wonderful pet for the right people. Most foxes will not be just like your average cat or dog although there are always exceptions. They aren't legal in certain states, cities, or counties so you would want to look that up. They need a special high taurine diet so they shouldn't just live of of dog or cat food. Foxes smell bad, can you handle that? Red and arctic foxes are said to have a very unpleasant oder similar to that of a skunk. Larger foxes will also need an outdoor enclosure with a top and a buried fence because they can dig and climb or they will likely destroy and stink up your house. They cant be around smaller animals either and might not get along well unsupervised with cats. If you do truely want to get a fox look up all your facts first and buy from a responsible breeder. lol, Not sure how serious you were about fox ownership but I posted all the facts anyway. Never get a pet without knowing your stuff first. Anyone has questions just ask me.

And they will never be truly happy with you.End of story. If you love foxes, you will keep them in the wild.

Thank author of this post/comment"How do you know?"

Have ever had one? If you have you were obviously incapable of taking care of it if it was unhappy. I know PLENTY of fox owners who have extremely happy, healthy animals. They take care of their animals better then most people treat their dogs or cats. Just because some people abuse their exotic pets doesn't mean EVERYONE does. Almost any animal can be perfectly happy with humans with the right care and environment, I'm not saying all are of course but Do your research and talk to responsible owners before making such an ignorant and near-sighted assumption without knowing both sides of the story. I will be getting a fennec fox some day hopefully soon, and if I thought The animal would be unhappy or I couldn't care for it I wouldn't get one because I do love foxes.
