Baby raccoons!

We found baby raccoons yesterday and finally found someone to rehabilitate them back into the wild. They were very weak when we found them and the person we brought them to said they were about 6 weeks old. My question is what are our chances of getting round worm from them? We really don't have rabies in our area....distemper yes. The mom I do believe was being fed by humans....She had not been around them for 5 days or so. Now I am all worried about this. They all came around very quickly after getting some liquid into them. Can someone out there ease my conscience....we just didn't want the babies to die.

Not likely that you will contract roundworms, but rabies is always a possibility, no matter where you live. Raccoons are one of the worst carriers after bats. What happened to the mother? It is quite possible that she died of disease, and you should be concerned.

There are certain places that prohibit domestication of what you would call wild animals. Have you checked to see if you might fall in the wrong side of the law? You seem to have a phobia for round worms but there are many more diseases that can be contracted from raccoons.

The mother might have died from natural causes but having those animals around might pre-dispose you to greater risks
