Hi im looking for a alligaotr for sale i live in texas and would really like to have one email me if you can help me?

Just so we're clear... IT IS ILLEGAL TO HAVE A PET ALLIGATOR IN FLORIDA! Alligators are mean, it doesn't take much to make them aggressive, just like any animal, frequent handling makes them tame and manageable. They are not "guard dogs"! Owning any animal bred and trained to be aggressive is a legal liability, they are considered a deadly weapon and you can be charged accordingly if someone is accidently or purposefully hurt.

As for Texas, check with your state and local laws, any state where exotic animals can live naturally usually bars them as pets. I know many of the southern states have begun placing limits on exotic reptiles because there is a growing population of exotics in the wild interfering with the natural environment and species. Carefully check the state and local laws in your area before buying an alligator, the restrictions are often tight, sometimes requiring a permit before purchase, others require a permit once it get to a certain length, some areas require a care class before buying an exotic, here I found it difficult to find out who was in charge of permits or licensing, each agency placed blame or responsibility on another agency, I still don't have a straight answer... I knew it wasn't illegal though, so now I have Chomper. :)

There is an alligator species called the Caimen, it grows to 6-8 ft and is legal to own as a pet! even in Florida. Check the web out and there is no special permits for it you can have as many as you want. It is illegal to own a wild caught gator but these guys are perfectly legal.

Legal Yes. However, they can be extremely hard to handle, and require an extremely experienced handler. Even if it is just a caimen, and not a full-on alligator, they are still VERY nippy. In anycase, you won't need to train an alligator to be mean. Although he seems very docile now, believe me, when the time comes to it, if he needs to be, he'll be angry. BUT, if he is, then you have bigger issues. Legal issues. You shouldn't have to try to make an alligator mean. That isn't fair to the animal.

Comment #5 skkflip@yahoo.com (67.78.112.167) -

yes you can keep an alligator as a pet in florida, you just have to get the right permits and licenses.

and you have to purchase one from a licensed reptile dealer, you can't just take one from the wild and try to domesticate it.

I am curious where I could buy a baby giraffe and how much it would cost. An odd question, I know.

Comment #16 Greenmanbacchus from Hammonton New Jersey USA (Contact Member) -

Alligators are perhaps the most docile of all the crocodilians.

That does not mean that they arent potentially dangerous.

They'll get anywhere from 12 feet long up to the record which is over 19 feet. An adult alligator is expensive to house and feed properly. They're definitely NOT a 'guard' animal.

If you need a 'guard' animal ( and are prepared for the liability), the best animal for the job is a dog.

As far an 'Where can I get an alligator', search the net using a search word such as 'alligators for sale' There's plenty of 'em available, they're not hard to find.

Good Luck!

GMB

I have a female gator that is 5-7 years old. Well maintained and loved and cared for. Need to find a new home for her because of her size. She's 5 feet long. Please email if interested. jonlovesgators@yahoo.com

I am looking for an alligator that i could use for educational talks in a local museum here in Florida. I could use a caiman to represent one but i would rather use the real thing. Our museum is short on funds and I am trying to help bring more money back into it so we do not have to lay anyone else off in the fall. Please email me if you have or are interested in lending me a alligator for these uses. I have plenty of hours, but i dont know how to obtain the proper permits to have one for educational purposes here in Florida since i am new to this sort of thing and when i called the Florida fish and game commission they were very short with me about the topic. I would appreciate any information someone could give me regarding this topic.

Thanks,

Jason

i have a 2 foot alliagator and he is super healthy. i feed him by hand 3-4 times a week. he eats frozen mice, raw chicken, raw meat, fish, crayfish, and crickets. i want him to go to eithe a really REALLY good home or i am looking to send him to someone that will release him into the wild for me. he is very special to me and i will not let him go to just anyone as i dont want him mistreated or winding up dead. the reson why i am giving him away is because for an alligator, he is extremely aggressive and fast. i handle him all the time but he is just far too aggressive. he is the dominant alligator out of the litter i am positive of this. i have nother alligator that is only 8 inches. i bought both alligators at the same time and they live together in a large enclosure in my house but for some reason the one gre about 3 inches while the other grew about 18 inches. email me if youre interested in him. again he is about 2 feet maybe longer, really beefy but not fat, super healthy, very dominant and aggressive, incredible eater and very fast. i will let him go for FREE and i will cover first class shipping. i dont care about money, i just want him happy and healthy.

i have a pet ailagator and his name is ozzy i had him almost two years now and if you just think for a moment he is no fluffy dog he is a ailagator if you hold them it will stress them and thay wont eat. ok if you own one you you WILL BE BIT! when there young there bite feel's like a tack going through your finger later it is posible it will feel like a nail going through your hand! so decrecing your chances of being bit use a feading stick you will experince a lot of traing to do this but it works.

I have a American alligator i am thinking of selling. It is healthy and happy. It is 18" long and 1 1/2 years old.We have fish lizards and aquariums all over the place and some of them have to go.My wife and kid are not to fond of "Slash". He is in a 75 gallon tank with a matching stand. Would only sell to somebody who would really want to take care of him and give him a good home.I live in the Chicagoland area.
