'Why do dogs eat poop?'

Ok this is gross but my younger lab eats the older lab's poop. We are constantly in the backyard cleaning it up but we miss some once in a while. We stand at the door and watch her. We have tried putting her on a leash and correcting her if she goes for it, we have tried putting things in the older lab's food to make it less appetizing to the younger one nothing seems to work. It is absolutely disgusting but I don't know how to get her to stop. She is fine when someone goes outside with her but sometimes we aren't always available to stand out there for 10 minutes. We have a 2 year old and one on the way so sometimes it makes it difficult. Any advice on how to get the younger one to stop this horrible habit would be greatly appreciated!!!

Our dog used to do this too. It would just gross us out!! She didn't do it for very long, though. She got horribly sick one time after eating it and she learned her lesson from it. She didn't do it all after that.

i didnt know dogs ate poop.. i knew that that smelled poop all the time just to see whio was around and whos poop is whos.. but why would they want to eat poop. poop is disgusting. do dogs just eat other dogs poop or will they eat other animals poop as well? like bear poop, or elephant poop too? do they eat human poop?

dogs always eat other animals poop at first. She used to eat my moms dog who is 13 poop when she was little. but now she sticks to the rabbit poop... when we empty the bins into the garden she goes crazy comes in covered in it and will bit it as its coming off the shevel. Its what they dog, best thing to do is the Cover the older dogs poop after it comes out in somthing nasty, so she stops eating it, I'm not sure if that will work, but its what we do with rabbit poop now, but it makes them not dig at it. But my dog quickly stopped eating my older dogs poop so dont worry it might happen every now and then, but it wont be everytime. not the same with throw up tho, our old dog has thrown up everything she ate since she was a pup, to this day my dog still eats her throw up, its nasty, but they are animals you cant help it.

Well, maybe if you fed your dog proper food he/she would stop eating poo. Maybe their turds taste better than the crap you are putting in their bowl once a day. Also, everyone love a hot meal. Then again, maybe your dog has a mild form of mental retardation. Laugh all you want, but don't act like I don't have a valid point.
