Dogs - Dogs What do you think of those invisible dog fences? |

I used to think that it was mean to jolt a dog like that but have been told by my friends (who just recently purchased one of these) that it is completely safe. What do you think?

Most are safe..., but electricity is what it is...there is a danger to it. Every dog is different, some will not necessarily feel this shock, even at it's highest setting. For example, if the dog has a high prey drive and is engaged on chasing an animal it will run right through it. It might feel it but it will be over it within a few seconds if that. Know your dog's behaviors. Otherwise, its a liability and you're wasting your money. On the plus side, when they work..., they work very well. I won't disregard them. I think if I had put one on my 70 lbs. schnauzer-standard poodle mix who was extremely a momma's boy..., he'd probably pee himself upon getting hit with the shock, then I might feel bad. Yet, it would be effective.

i have dogs and all of them use the electric fence. its perfectally safe it gives them a beep for a warning and them it unharmfully gives a small shock to the neck.i was holding one once and i went over the line...ouch but it didnt hurt, it just scared me for a minite i didnt even fell the sore after 2 mins!!!! now my dogs dont even need the coller because they are so usted to it. what i mean is after about 3 shocks the dog learnes that it cant go past those areas. i hope this answered your question

To MC and Pink:Try putting that collar on you. You should try it out. See how safe it is..., don't ask me why one woman put this on once and she set it pretty high and she fell to the ground and urinated on herself. Incredibly stupid. That's just a little insight. Not saying this device doesn't work, it's just that there are some dogs that it doesn't work on. Barrier aggression and prey drives seem to be at the top of that list. They don't think about the beep and they're not in that collar zone long enough. They, boom, they're through the fence.
