Red Nose Pitbulls

Linda (63.176.159.52) -

What is so special about red nose pit bulls?

Rednose and Bluenose are just colors. Red is a recessive gene which many pit bulls carry even if they are a different color. The breeders in Ireland many years ago didn't interbreed their lines with anyone else's, and they often kept pedigrees secret and guarded them with their lives. When the gene pool is relatively small like that it tends to bring out recessive traits, i.e. Red. And as for blue, it is just a dilution of black. I'm not exactly sure how blues were originally bred, but most breeders I know will breed blues with blacks and take the blue dogs from that litter and breed back to blue, since breeding blue dogs to each other for too many generations can cause problems.

What difference does it make for owning a pit bull? Are red or blue nose dogs better? More friendly? More aggressive?

I used to have a sign on my office which read "Protected by Pitbull with AIDS".

The AIDS part aside, why would anyone want a pitbull for a fet?

I don't think one or the other would be a better pet. That's like asking "which would be better, a black or white cat?" I've met quite a few really nice and polite pitbulls in my life. And have seen or read stories about a lot of poor abused animals that weren't so nice.

Yes, but are there personality traits that are specific to the red nose or blue nose pit bulls?

I wouldnt say any are better. it depends on the dog. Either way pitbulls like to stay active they are working dogs. My sister has been breeding pits for about 4 years now and her neighbor had been breeding them for 11years. I personally like red nose though, But that is showing partiallity hust because that is mainly all I've been around.

true or false, are all pit bulls born to bite ? i have a 2yr old pit bull who loves to nip can this be controlled?

pit bulls like to nip when they play. its how they play with each other they dont want to take a bite out of you at all they play a little rough thats all.And Red and Blue pits are the same its just acolor they aren't diffrent at all. and if you rase it right it will be a good dog but if you treat it with disrespect (SHAME ON YOU) they will be mean like every other dog would.I LOOOOVE my red nose he's the best dog i ever had.

I looking at a pit mother a 2 o her pups?

one pup's hair is a little long and fuzzy not short and slick like i have always seen.

Is it possible for a pupto have this little bit of longer hair or does this pup possibly not belong/

IT'S NOT DAT COMMON FOE A PIT BULL'S HAIR TO BE ALL FUZZY AND LONG BUT IT HAPPEN'S.IT'S JUST THA LINE AND GENE'S DAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS.

I call my dog Beef, he's a red nose pitbull. Me and my husband have had him him for 4 years. He's the sweetest, lovable dog I've ever set eyes on. My husband works the graveyard shift at night on the military base, so me and beef share the bed. He's big though, almost 90lbs, actually 88lbs. But it works out for us, since i only weigh 102lbs, he's got plenty of room to stretch. He's wonderful with kids, I have two of them under the age of 5, and he tolerates them very well. We call him beef because when he was a puppy he was so plump and big for being 8 weeks. He's never growled or did anything that made me nervous.

Today, pitbulls are taking a bad rap for things that should be on the owner who abused them. Their being banned everywhere. I am in a state where no county has banned them yet.

Comment #20 Josephine Leonard (65.92.204.230) -

I have 2 beautiful rednose pitbull girls who are 3 years old. Their names are Eagle and Lake. I got them from EagleLake, Ontario, Can. They are the joy of our lives. They are not aggressive to people. I truly believe they will be fine because we brought them up like little children. They both have very different personalities. They only time I ever seen them being vicious is when the both had litters at the same time. They had terrible fights with each other and almost ripped each other apart. As soon as the puppies were weened they were back to their normal selves. They love to run....I mean run all over. They insist on having rides in our van. They run to my mothers house who lives about 2 miles away and tells my mother to give them a ride home.

But half the time he's get along with other female dogs just fine. he just need a loving owner who willing to take good care of him. i'm looking for someone that love him and willing to spend time with him not just chained him up in the yards. he very healty and well built. he weight about 70 pounds, no fat. big body with a big head. he just the kind of dogs that every one wish for. And that he/she got be a good hearted loving person. 2)he/she got to have time to spend with the dogs.and no attend to do illegal stuff with the dogs.3)he/she can't have no dogs at all, female dogs that is calm submissive is okay. 4)last but not least he/she got to live in louisville/kentucky cus i will not ship him nor give him away so far. And he/she got to have the buget to spend on him. That is all i wish for in the new owner of my dog. If you are interested in Drama plaese send me a e-mail with your name and address and picture of your family and yards that will help me a lot to make the better choice for my dog new home. please understand that i'm really love my dog and i would never want any thing to happen to him. i want him to live happy for rest of his life hopely with the his new owner. if you want to see his picture just e-mail me plaese. thank alot for time

I have one pure breed Red Nose Pit and a Boxer Pit mix. They are both 7mos. old and love each other. They are so fun to have and watch. They are the two biggest babies I have ever seen. Our mix dog is female and she loves to be held like a baby. Our male is just now letting us roll him over and rub his belly. He use to hate that.

My question is this....My husband and I just got married in December we got both dogs in March. We maybe planning to start a family at the start of 2008. How well do pits adjust to a new baby in the house when they have been the center of attention for so long?

We just acquired a red-nose pt-puppy. He is about 6 mos. and has been an inside pet for at least the last month but we can't keep him inside as we already have a Dacshund in the house who's very jealous. Any tips on how to get him used to being outside?

PITBULLS SHOULD STAY ALIVE.ONLY REASON PEOPLE HAVE DOG FIGHTS WITH THEM THAT DSENT MEAN THAT THEY NEED TO GO TO JAIL ALL THEY ARE TRYING TO DO IS TEACH THESE DOGS A LESSON SAYING IF YOU KEEP MESSING AND HURTING PEOPLE YOU ARE GOING TO GET KILLED DOG.THEY DO IT BECAUSE SO IF SOMEONE TRIES TO BREAK IN THEIR HOUSE THEY WILL BE OK.

THANK, U

my nearly five year old pit bull is showing major signs of seperation anxiety and jealousy with my 18 month old son. He has also became anxious when people knock on the door or come in. Sometimes to the point of aggression. I love my dog. He has always been the baby in our family. He only acts this way when me and my older son are home. Is this normal?? What can I do....I have all of these people telling me to put him down. I have asked my vet and animal behavioralists for advise, they say the same, that he has reached his maturity level and will continually get worse. What can I do???!!!! Pls help!

I am getting really annoyed with these dumb small minded people talking bad about pitbull terriers. I have owned a red devil pitbull for 14 years and I also have two of her puppies from birth. Firstly, there is no such thing as a mechanism which enables them to lock their jaw it is a myth. Next thing is they are the same as humans. If you breed ANY ANIMAL or human to be violent, then they will indeed be violent. My dogs have grown up with love and affection and their only goal is to look after my children and please me at every opportunity. Naturally these dogs wil excell at any task given to them which unfortunately includes fighting. The dogs that attack humans you can guarantee have been either bred for fighting or have been ill treated. The police are quick to ban pitbulls but why not man dobermanns who have a history of more murders than pits? Any why have they not done post mortems on pits? This would prove they are born with perfectly normal brains and do not have some fantasy cells which would make them any more tempremental than any other dog. Also I would like to make a comment on the recent death of a young girl in England. HER UNCLE WAS INVOLVED IN DOG FIGHTING!!!!!! He was purposely breeding dogs and keeping dogs for dog fighting!!! So how do you think those dogs were kept? I will tell you, he was probably kept in a dark cupboard most of the day and tossed raw meat. Beated with metal rods at every opportunity, sliced with a knife to get him used to pain tied to a treatmill for hours on end and beaten if he tried to sit, trained with a sleeve that fits on a persons arm and told to totally tear it apart or get beaten, starved for days to encourage anger, tell me, how would you react to humans if you had an opportunity to be around a weak one for a second if you were treated this way? WAKE UP PEOPLE and do some research!!!!!! Oh and just for the record, my neighbours son would be dead today if it were not for my dog who jumped in the sea to drag him out, its funny when I wrote to the papers about it they didnt want to know. The police need to take some responsibility and instead of destroying loving pets, go after the breeders that breed for fighting dogs, go after the organisers of dog fights and go after the owners that abuse their animals. But no its far easier for you to say its due to the animals nature huh!!

Comment #38 glenda Songer (72.196.97.228) - Mon Jul 7 18:08:17 2008

I have been sans a dog for a few years now. I have lived with, shown, both conformation and obedience, bred, doberman pinchers, and chesapeke bay retrievers, tho not at the same time. I have read the bad press, seen TV news describing the destructive and dangerous behavior of american pit bulls, know several friends and collegues who share their home with wonderfully loyal, trusted and well disciplened/behaved pits, and am now in a place that I will be able to share with a female rednose pit bull puppy. I accept that genetics are important contributors to aggression, but more importantly, because these dogs are very loyal, they will do what they are encouraged to do. I like the smaller type, am certainly against dog fighting, it's cruel, but accept that specimans of this breed, do need a firm, but kind, and consistant behavioral expectation. This girl will live in a very experienced, loving home, will be spayed, (no more puppies for me), and socialized to be discriminating. So, Can you help me? Thanks in advance, Glenda Songer
