I had a poodle that use to eat poop. Our vet said she was lacking a mineral. He suggested we give her seaweed sprinkled on her food daily we bout seaweed capsules from a whole foods store and sprinkled a capsule on her food daily and she stopped eating poo. she was lacking a mineral. Hope this helps some of your precious animals. It did mine.

I keep my cats litter box in the bathtub in an unused bathroom. The cats can jump in but the little overweight poodle can't.

We have a poodle cross lhasa apso 9months old he finds the cat poop in the garden if we havn't found it, he knows it's wrong but when caught he runs off with it.I've tried putting dried chillies where the cats poop but he eats that also!

my dog is nearly 3 mths old a min pin and proceeds to drag out cat poo and eat it he is driving me nuts pees and poos where he wants to we have peee pads out he also gets put in bathroom to help with all that too he rakes our faces with his paws and drives us crazy only had him nearly 2 weeks wat do we do we are not experts in puppy rearing??

My two dogs keep eating the cat poo it's so gross. They always find the cat litter every were we hide it!.And I want to stop! One of my dog is a (Japinese Chin) and my other dog is a (Dashund). There bth so cute but i cant let them lick me becuase its to gross doese ANY ONE HAVE A SOLUTION!!!!!!!

My two large dogs, Queensland healer mix and lab mix, both tend to keep the cat litter box quite neat and tidy. I noticed they perk up when they hear the cat scratch in the box and realized I hadn't scooped any cat poop out of that box in several months... My plan was to try spraying bitter apple on the cat poop. There is something about the cat poop that they obviously like and maybe the bitter apple will make it less like-able. Problem is I never can get in there before the mutts... Maybe I just need to learn to live with it and stop imposing my cultural mores on my dogs...

Try getting a littermaid cat box (I got mine at walmart.com) that automatically cleans the cat box 10 minutes after the cat goes to the potty. The littermaid is anywhere from $100 - $120 (depending on the sytle) but it works great. We have two dogs and two cats. Our mini-dachshund loves cat poop and this has stopped him, as there is not any poop for him to eat anymore.

I was so upset to see my dashund eatting cat poo. I called our vet and he has ordered me a powder. I don't know the name right now. He is going to give it to me on Monday. When I get the name, I will post it. He says I have to put the medicine {a powder} on the cat cat food and the dog food for 5 days. We will see if this works, will post that info later. Thank you for this sight, I was so upset I was going to give my 2 dashunds away.

This is almost always a result of the dog not receiving enough nutrients via their dog food. And if you are feeding a high quality dog food, if you add a full and complete dog food supplement, you will find that this behavior usually will go away. While you are waiting, you can put the litter box in an area that your dog cannot reach.

my boston she is eating poo to and i will watch my cats (that is two of they ) what they go and clean up after they. But the dog is always one step ahead of me i need help. O yes my dog eats the cats food to, so is it ok to let the dog eat the cat food

They say that if you feed dogs pineapple in their food, they won't eat their own poo. Maybe, you can get the cats to eat some pineapple to see if it will work.

If not, maybe you can get one of those automatic litter things that puts the poo & other clumps into a container where the dogs don't get to it.

If you want to have the freedom to put your litter box anywhere you want purchase the Doggone Litter Block. It will prevent your dog from entering the cat's litter box and eating everything in it. Also, another advantage is you could buy a separate litter box and insert the Doggone Litter Block it will stop your dog from eating cat food. Just put the cat food in the litter box (clean) and insert the Doggone Litter Block and the dog will not be able to get to the cat food either.

FINALLY, THE ANSWER EVERYONE IS LOOKING FOR - The Doggone Litter Block will not only prevent your dog from eating the kitty litter but if you by a second litter box just for cat food then you can put the Doggone Litter Block in it as well. I have four Siberian Huskies and five cats. The cats eat in the clean litter box with the Doggone Litter Block in the hood and the dogs CANNOT EAT IT ANYMORE. As far as my dogs getting into the kitty litter, well I used that for the cat's litter box and it stopped them from eating the cat poo. This really does work and is fairly inexpensive. It is a permanent SOLUTION!!!!

You could try using hydrogen peroxide, It makes them throw up and isn't harmful. Just use a little bit and take them outside afterwards. i had to do this with chocolate to save my dog's life and with cat poop.

I have been laughing hystericly! I'm so happy to know that it is normal for my dog to be sooo disgusting!lol Someone said they don't think they will ever eat Almond Rocca again, that did it, I laughed for 5 minutes, Thank you!! Think about that one and you'll be laughing too. Well my solution for keeping the cat poo outa her mouth is to never leave her alone with it. When I leave she stays in my room with her food and water. You need to have a dog that does not "go" in your house or tear stuff up. Otherwise I don't recommend leaving them alone in your room. If I take her out I have to put her on a leash even though she is an amazingly trained dog cat poo is her drug of choice, if she detects it she's gonna eat it. She knows it's wrong and will run with the turd chewing the whole way while I'm screaming, "NO! DON'T EAT THAT! BAD GIRL!"

I had this problem and it is disgusting. I found a device that fits in the litter box hood and my dog does not eat the cat poop anymore. You can go to google search and find it under doggone litter block. It works great for me and my cat weighs 15 lbs. He goes in and out with no problem and my dog cannot get in the box anymore. It is a new product that has recently came out.

i have a year old jack russel dog and a three year old labrador who both sneak into the litter tray they know they have done wrong as they put ears down when i walk in the room and the trail of litter to the bed gives it away , i tried an igloo tray with lid and flap but they broke flap off to get at the poo it makes me feel ill......what the tablets called please or is there special litter the dogs hate taste of ?

All breads of dogs eat cat poo because to them it is a treat. Cat food contains more protein and nutrients than dog food and because cats eat their food whole it doesnt digest fully! this means their poo still contains these protein and nutrients which means dogs think its food. my dogs also eat cat poo, but she doesnt get sick at all. I think if your dogs are getting sick from eating your cats or other cats poo, its because what the cat has eaten!

Okay - to you people who say 'put the box somewhere where the dog can't get to it, ' that's a really dumb/obvious thing to say. Do you think that we're stupid and we haven't thought of that??? Do you think that you're imparting some great wisdom on us by telling us that?

I have seen the pills at Petco, and I've also heard of putting meat tenderizer in the cat's food. Not sure how healthy that is, or if it even works. I'm hesitant to give my cats meat tenderizer....

I have a pug/corgi mix, and a scottie/schnauser mix and they both eat out of the litter box, what can I do cause the puppy is only 4 months old and I dont want him go get really sick.

the reason dogs do this is because of the lack of proper nutrients in their dog food, try mixing vegetables without msg (frozen then thawed of course) with their dry kibble along with salmon once a week along with this get dog vitamins whether paste or pill, i have also mixed my chihuahua/mix food with ensure every other week n it has stopped this disgusting habit.

petsmart has a pill it is Nutrivet Nasty Habit for dogs and it's 11.99... it's supposed to help them stop eating the poo... mine does it to and i did some reasearch on the web..

I am so happy to hear that this is a common problem. we adopted a two yr old Pug a few weeks ago and from day 1 he has been eating the cat poop. His breath is HORRIBLE and in the beginning I just assumed the previous owners didnt take proper care of his teeth. Now I know it's the poop. I saw someone mention high quality dog food should stop it. well, I feed him Blue Buffalo and Cesar and still loves his cat poop!

If anyone finds the name of this wonder pill by all means post it because this Rocko loves to give kisses by his breath smells like poop....literally!

I accidentally left the room were I keep the litter box open (it had my cats poop and everything). When I went in my dog was eating the cat poop with litter now I'm freaking out thinking he might get sick and die. What happens when your dog eats that stuff? What are the symptoms?

(and his breaths stinks now.)
