What is your favoriate name for a dog? How do you choice a name for a new dog?

My nine year of lab is Sadie. Sable means black but we didn't like the name Sable so we changed a few letters and played with it and came up with Sadie. My five year old is Shadow. Her name originally was going to be Madison but I kept calling her Maddy. I didn't want to confuse her by calling her two names so Madison was out. That night before bed my husband took her out to use the bathroom and she started barking at her shadow hence her name Shadow and it stuck.

My favorite dog growing up was a German Shepherd Keeshond mix named Emily. She was the sweetest dog. Then my sister had a Golden named Amber. Two of my brother's children are Amber and Emily. He says it's not related. LOL!

Comment #3 Odie from the dog house -

Bosco- I like that name it is kind of catchy and sounds like it would be a good name for male dog that likes to play! Of course our dog isn't named that.:(

Comment #4 Wolfgang from Dog Pound -

Bosco would be a fun name for a dog. Especially if you love chocolate. If I remember correctly, an old friend of mind had a dog named Hershey.

Comment #5 lily from deep south -

My bouvia is named Lucky. He got that name because I was lucky to even get him. He was the last one that the breeder had and was actually sold when the first owners changed their mind last minute. I pick names based on how the animal acts and what seems to "fit".

Comment #6 Wolfgang from Dog Pound -

That is lucky, Lily. And how is the dog. Is he everything you wanted? I wanted to see what the dog looked like and couldn't find any Bouvia breed online. Do you mean the Bouvier?

I'm the same way about picking names. I wait for the animal's personality to show and for a name to speak to me.

hey, thats some kool names you guys have. But I think u guys should a bit more better name s like Jack, Buddy, Oreo, Cuddles, Coco, Smores, Shiny, Cutie, and some other names that I like.

My favorite name would have to be something that describes the dog. Like, my dog's name is Linus (from the Peanuts cartoon) because he always carries around his blanket. After you get a dog, wait till you know him for a couple days till you decide. If you name him sweetie, and after a year he bites someones finger, then you haven't made a wise name. Good Luck!

ok my fave dog names would have to be. chauncey, jimmy, seth and matty. i have a mutt named buddy. how original huh? buddy is alright too. but too common i think.

I think Bailey or Rory is a cute name for girls. Coco, Luigi, Sam, Morris, Kimm, or Cutesy is also alot of cute ones!!

those are some really good names! my rottweilers name is Nomad. i really lov that name! also my other dogs name is Flannigan.

I think one of the best names is one that is amusing and makes people smile. For small breed dogs, having a sarcastic name is great! I had a small Pomeranian, she was only about 5 pounds...and I named her "Killer". Whenever someone asked me what her name was and I told them, they were sure to smile!

We used to have a Papillon called Whisper, and two Belgian Tervurens named Sika (See-kuh, which is a type of small deer from Japan) and Kemas (Kay-mass, meaning "young deer" in Greek). Now I have a Papillon named Soleil (Soh-lay) which means "sunshine" or "sun" in French and a Border Collie named Rudy which means "famous wolf".

A few other names I like for dogs are:

Dasani

Fiddle

Honey

Kemp

Kep

Kindle

Kip/Kipper/Kippedy

Max

Meiko (mee-koh)

Mirk

Orson

Rage

Rex

Rukka (Roo-kuh)

Seth

Spirit

Skop

Tease

Quest

(Okay, so I guess that waaaaaaaay more than "a few", but oh well...) :)
