Crate training

We crate trained both of our dogs and it worked out great. They would only go in the crate when we weren't home. We never used the crate as punishment which I know some people do. The older lab came out of the crate and had run of the house before she was a year old and the worst trouble she got into was tearing apart the bathroom garbage and spreading kleenex around the house. The younger one on the other hand was in the crate, only when we were not home, unitl she was 3. She thought chewing up my kitchen chairs and putting a hole in the dry wall was a good idea. Um no. So we went and bought the biggest indoor crate you can get and she was content to be in there and it made me feel good because I knew she wasn't getting into trouble when we weren't home. Now they both have run the house and everything is great. I think crate training is a good idea as long as it is used correctly.

Both of my sisters crate trained their labs too. It worked out great with them - they had no problems at all. I agree with you - there are some people who put their dogs in the crate as a punishment. Shame on them.
