Does anybody watch The Dog Whisperer? Cesar Millan absolutely amazes me. I watch his show in awe at how he gets these dogs to do what he wants in such a short amount of time. My husband laughs at me because I go around our house trying to shush my dogs like Cesar does and of course when I do it, it never works. He truly has a gift with these animals. I love the show and try and catch it whenever I have a half second free to myself. Anybody else a Cesar fan?

Comment #1 Jeanette from AZ -

I saw him on Oprah. I couldn't believe how spot on he was about her dogs. it definitely takes a certain kind of person to do what he does. I have seen only a couple of episodes of his show because I can never remember when it's on!!

I have several animals, a pomeranian (9 yrs), an Australian Shepherd (12 yrs), a Papillion (3yrs), a German Shepherd (1 yr), a Bengal cat (2 yrs), and two Pixie Bobs (6 yrs). They all get along (other than the occasional cat fight of just growling but no hurting). The dogs are all fine with each other and the cats. In the yard, the German Shepherd will chase everything else not known to him out of the yard.

My problem is that I'm 105 lbs and the German Shepherd is about 85 and much stronger than me. When I walk him outside the house, I don't know if he's trying to eat the other dogs when we are walking or play, but he is stronger than me. He has pulled me down on occasion. He loves to swim, and now that it is warmer he's going back in the pool. I'm going to try another coller. I've tried the choke coller and the halti. Now I'm trying the the training collar with the spikes. I don't like doing this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Lori

I watch the show all the time. I have just recently gotten a new puppy and I'm having a few problems. He's 8 weeks old and he's a Pitbull. I'm having some house training problems. I bought the Puppy Pads and I take him out every time he eats and wakes up. I am thinking about buying some books to help. We bought him a kennel and as long as he's in the kennel he does fine, I know it will just take time. But yeah Cesar is Awesome it's amazing how well he understands dog psycology.

I am curious about why my 2yr.old great dane on her daily walks smells the ground more than keeping her head up? She is also a timid dog. Thank you Lucy

Ceasar is wonderful. I have been watching his show for awhile, and one show I remembered featured a Westie (west highland white terrier). The owner of the dog was having the same problem, that I was experiencing with my then 10 year old westie. She was going after the mail, everytime the mail carrier, would place it through the slot. I did what Ceasar was showing that owner to do, and it worked, problem solved. I hope he reads this email, because last night we had to make a difficult dicision and put our beloved westie dog Spunky of 14 years to sleep. She developed Kidney failure 10months ago, and last night, after taking her to the vet, her levels were extremely elevated and her red blood cell values were down. Even as I am typing this email, I am fighting back the tears, but we had 14 wonderful years with her, and I just have to keep telling myself that she is in a better place. Thanks for listening.

Hi, I have a 9 month old puppy, she has lab in her for sure and we're not sure about the rest. She is about 35 pounds and she is deaf. We work 12 hours a day and 6 days a week and we have been having problems with her destroying the room when we leave. She chews on everything she can. We have tried to put her in cages but she always seems to get out. We don't know what else to do with her. I was hoping you might have some suggestions. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you. Tamra

Question? I have a good friend, he is retired, and he has a lab, 6years old, very nice dog.Dogs name is cody.He loves his dog and spoiles him.He walks the dog everyday, the dog walks good on the leash, but does not listen off.the dog is good temperment.

Here is the problem.Numerous times now the dog has been attacked. When a dog comes over to him, My friend, peter, gets real scared and starts yelling , at his dog and the other dog, witch creats mayhem and the dog gets attacked, I have personally seen it happen. It has really caused lots of anxiety for the dog and him.Since the last attack june 2nd, peter is beside himself wanting to carry something to fight off the dogs.

I watch your show alot and I think you are so amazing, you really know dogs(animals)You also train people very well, witch they need.I'am a ferm beleaver that it is not the dogs doing wrong , they are just dogs, doing dog things.I'am a dog lover as well, owned many dogs, sheperds, lab, rotties.Witch that is what i own now, she is the greatest of dogs.loyal, smart, obeys.

My friend when i met him was terrified of rottweillers and when he met my dog, he was so happy to know a dog like her, he couldn't beleave that she was not a killer. So you can see what he, (peter) is thinking.

If there is anything you can help me, him with would be great, before he does something crazy to the nexted dog that just wants to say hi.

In my house I'am the pack leader and it shows with my dog.

I also have learned alot from watching your show, you have not only taught me alot about dogs, but you have taught me alot about life, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.Keep up the great work and keep teaching you have avery special gift.

I cannot believe that people genuinely believe Cesar Millan is 'amazing'.

I had to watch his programme after so many mixed reviews and I am disgusted.

He rules by fear - yes he gets results but he is a dangerous man.

There is no need for dominance displays, threats etc. in your household, I am the pack leader in my house with no need for harsh punishment or force. My dogs are happy, balanced dogs and I have no need to alpha roll them or 'bite' them with my fingers.

I do not use a choke chain but instead, a clicker a form of positive reinforcement, reward based training.

My dogs do as I request and we all live in harmony.

I would much rather have dogs that work for me out of choice than out of fear or intimidation.

Why not try getting hold of a book by one of the many positive reinforcement based trainers? 'Don't shoot the dog' and 'The Other End of The Leash' are incredibly good as well as 'The Culture Clash' by Jean Donaldson.

The sooner this 'man' is stopped, the better and the safer we'll all be.

A woman at work has a 5 month old dachsund puppy. She told me she spanks this puppy till she yips whenever the puppy does not come to her when she calls and when the puppy tries to get under the fence to the street. She believes that small dogs have attitudes and she is doing the right thing.she said the puppy now clings to her husband and that when she spanks the puppy, it is mad at her, but then they make up.I told her that spanking only makes the dog afraid of her and her hands. She believes she is doing the right thing with this dog.

Ceaser, can you send me an e-mail I can take to her, explaing the correct way to handle this situation? I feel very badly for this poor puppy, I can't get through to her, you are my only hope to help this pup.

thank you,

Shelley Bicknell

hi Cesar,

well my best friend just got a new puppy about 2 or 3 months ago and he was about 6 weeks old and there is a 7 year old and a 9 year old girls that know nothing about dogs really. so they just think a dog/puppy is for petting and playing. and my friend and her mom and dad dont really know anything about dogs either. i tried to make them watch your show because he has become aggesive and dominent he will knock over the 7 year old and kind of "naw" on her head til someone pushes him off. he is potty trained but when he is in trouble of doesnt "feel" like going out side he will go on the floor. I come over about every day so when i come over i try to dominate the house for them and show them how to treat him but they still scream at him and chase him around when he gets into stuff and goes to the bathroom on the floor. they punish him not disiplans him. when he gets irritated or annoyed he will chew on the chair. when i try to make him submit he shows his teeth and bites me all over my arms and since he is still a puppy his teeth are even more sharp. i have a dog myself and i know how to "treat" her. she is the last dominant one so i use all my dominating tactics that i use on my dog on their dog and he still is aggresive no matter what. he is going to be a very big dog because he is already about knee high and he is only about 3 months old. their is a baby on the way so i feel like the baby could get bit realy badly if they dont "take action". i feel like i am no help because noone does their part in pack leadership. my arms are scarred and he isnt even my dog. so any help or recomendations would be great!!!

I have two dogs, a black lab 10 Shilo and a golden retriver 4 Savanna, I had Savanna not chasing cars or people but now she is back doing it again, how do I train her to come when I call her and not to chase cars or people.

Thanks

Comment #21 Michelle from US -

I don't like Cesar's tactics as well. I would much rather have a trainer who uses appropriate positive reinforcement strategies, instead of just forcing the dog into submission.

hi ceaser i love your show i never miss it my dog is so well trained the only problem i cant fix is when i throw him a mini tennis ball hes a (lhasa apso) he will get it walk back very slow and stop half way of corse i will coux him to me i never go to him, and then i make him sit he wont drop it so i grab it in his mouth without pulling and sternly say give it! 2-or3 times the first times he will but after that he wont if i pull it he gets aggeresive and tries to bite my hand please help i want him to be able to exersice with the ball chuck.

I tried your method of pulling it till he gets tired and lets go then i claim the ball wont let him near it untill he is submissive then i will throw it for him again but its the same dang thing again i am at a loss im so frusterated with my self i dont no what to do.

Also after doing the walk method he runs from the leash because now i correct him and i no getting excited is not good so if you can please help i would be so greatful! thanks ceaser
