Comment #1 Kelly (152.163.38.40) - If your dog is going to live inside the home, and in America over 90% of our pets do, you are going to have to go through the housebreaking process unless you have grossly different hygienic standards than most. It is not hard, it need not be messy, and it need not be a struggle. It does not have to take a long time. Remember that it is a training issue and you will need to have more than casual input. It will take some of your time but the more involved you get, the shorter that span will be. Comment #2 Mandy (4.228.210.16) - My dog keeps barking @ our neighbors on each side of our house. Jan, one of our neighbors called the humane society 3 times, and 1 today. I have a new dog over here, so we have 5. The dogs bark a neighbors on both sides. How can I get them to stop? Comment #3 kabir from around the globe - listen! Comment #4 Courtney (1) from The South - This sounds really bad, but it worked for our Lhasa Apso. We would rub his nose in it and then put him outside. It only took about a week and then he would scratch at the backdoor to get out to use the bathroom. As far as barking, good luck, my miniature dachsund barks at its own shawdow! LOL Comment #5 shannon (88.105.253.93) - My 6 month old puppy keeps peeingin the house and i dont know wat to do??!! I have never been able to catch him in the act but, I have seen and smell the urine. It is very frustrating. Comment #8 holly (124.157.70.22) - hi my 13 year old border terrier is peeing in the house he had been doing for a couple of weeks and then he stopped but then a went a way and he stared again.I let him out before i go to bed and then he whines in the middle of the night and then if i don't let him out he pees Comment #9 Christina (69.92.218.63) - I have a boy puppy about 3-4 months. He will pee a few times within an hour. He's also being crate trained and can go hours without peeing while in the crate, and always poops outside. Its just peeing, I'll take him outside and he will go potty and within 15 min he pees on the floor, if I catch in in the act I scold him and take him outside. My boyfriend insists on rubbing his nose in it, but I don't think thats working either. I don't know what to do, its not like we aren't letting him out to go to the bathroom, and like I said while we are at work he will hold it all day while in the crate. Any advice? Comment #10 Sarah (68.52.91.178) - We have had our dog for about a month now. She's about 10 months old. She has had the occassional accident but for being new to the family not bad. She has started going more and more often now. We have started doing the crate training. When its time for her to go outside and pee, she just stands there no matter how long we stand out with her. Since she didn't go should we put her back in her "house" for more time and try again later?? Comment #11 Elyse (99.235.237.93) - My dog casper he is 8 months and he keeps peeing in the house and we are getting fed up with it!!! If we don't find a solution or something to stop peeing in the house I am afrade that we will take him to the animal shelter!!! Comment #12 Bobbie (69.144.63.182) - i have the exact same problem as Christina in coment #9. my dog is about the same age and i even tried giving her treats for peeing outside, that dont work either. any ideas would be helpful. Comment #13 Nat (99.237.72.237) - I just recently got a girl puppy. She's 6 months and sometimes in the mornings i go outside and nothing happens we come inside and she pees on the floor 2 minutes later. Comment #14 bridie (82.10.138.69) - i have a lhasa apso puppy , he is about 3-4 months old and he pees in the house about 4 times a day. Comment #15 joyce spence (90.200.200.110) - i have a zu, she is gorgeous she is 12 weeks old and we seemed to have her house trained within 2 weeks of getting her, but for some reason she keeps peeing on the kitchen floor, she is very clever in every other way, she does go to the door and then sometimes she just wont bother and pees on the floor, usually when she goes out i say to her have a wee and she does, but sometimes i think she does take the pee and squats and pretends lol.shes doing my head in. Comment #16 ERIK SPENCER (204.143.11.116) - HEEELLLLLLPPPP...i cant get my puppy to syop peein on the rug..hes got the poopin part down i cant figure out why he still pees on the rug but poops on the pad or outside..please help Comment #17 Brandlyn (72.82.160.117) - My dog is scared of moving items, like see saws and poles at the dog park. He thinks they move. I tried to get him use to these things but he jumps off. Can you help me please? His name is Ben. He is a pomeranian and he is 7 years old. Comment #18 Kristiana (173.95.172.17) - My puppy is about 4-5 months old. He is a sweet, fun, and intelligent dog, but I am struggling with breaking him out of peeing in the house. I have been crate training him for the last two months. He will never poop in the house, but he pees CONSTANTLY! I take him out constantly, feed him around the same time each day, but he still pees. I am at my wits end. He goes pee outside regularly. He will even go to the door and tell me he has to go out, but he still will pee in between randomly. It really makes me angry because I know that he knows better. Please give me some advice... Comment #19 Emma (81.97.111.27) - The best way to train your puppy: Comment #20 phoebe (99.237.68.25) - hi, my puppy oreo is 1 year old. he never had such behaviour before until my other dog came home . he started to pee everywhere.. like under the table, under the stove, under the fudge and etc. because my family keeps them in the kitchen. and they are getting fed with cleaning his wee. please give me some opinions on this because i really dont want to give him away. Comment #21 Mrs. T (76.70.65.179) - Hi, I have a 9 month old Yorkie Mix. He is pretty good most of the time but a couple times a week he pees in the house. He always pees in the house when alone with my husband. For the most part he is good, even wakes me up if he really needs to go outside, but it is as if he forgets or when he get scared he lets the pee flow! Comment #22 Vega Navarro (24.128.96.109) - Puppies pee a lot. A 2 month old puppy can only hold it's pee for 2 hours, a 3 month old for 3 hours, etc. While there will always be some accidents, an owner must stay very close to the puppy for atleast the first 5 months, taking them outside whenever the make a gesture that suggests they may pee or poo. You also need to take them outside as soon as they wake up (from sleep and naps), after playing in the house (excessive exercise can cause a puppy to have to go to the bathroom) and before they go to sleep at night. You can attached the pup to with it's leash, or if you are not home all of the time, keep the puppy in an enclosed area with newspapers. A crate won't work if the puppy is left in the crate for longer than he/she can hold their needs. Comment #23 Vega Navarro (24.128.96.109) - Forgot to mention that while it may seem stressful now, you will have years and years of a trained dog if you take the time to housebreak your puppy now. Comment #24 Corine (71.62.112.39) - Sat Sep 26 19:16:31 2009 Help! We adopted a 14 month old Pug-Tzu a few months ago from the local Animal Shelter. He is the 'fuggliest' little pooch, but oh so sweet. He is also hyper. The original owners turned him in because he kept marking around the house - okay there is really more to it. We had him neutered and thought that might help a bit. He is house-trained and he does know to go outside to potty. We even added a doggy door to help between taking him for a walk. He took to that right away. The problem is more than that...he hates the rain for one thing and I have to fight him to go outside in a storm. He still continues to urinate and even poop in the house! He'll go outside fine one moment and then sure enough, he'll poop or pee when our backs are turned. I've tried all sorts of odor absorbers for the places he has used, from commercial products to household vinegar, but nothing seems to work so far. I really thought part of the problem was that he was still young and hadn't really been worked with to try and teach him, but now I'm so frustrated...he has peed on our TV, Stereo, couch, in the middle of the floor, in the kitchen, on the vacuum cleaner and more. I really love this little guy but this is getting really not acceptable. I shudder to think about moving to a new house...He has to be crated when we are not at home and over night too...I tried one night to leave him out and he made massive messes...I don't know how one small dog (about 15 lbs) can have so much poo inside him...Thanks for any suggestions... • Page 1 (Original Post) • Page 2 (Newest Replies) •
