I have a male cat that was desexed after it was a year old and had already starting to wander.

It still goes away for days on end and I would like to know is there something else I can do.

It stays inside of a night then let out in the morning and then doen't come back.?

There really isn't a lot you can do. Some will wander even after they are fixed at an early age, and with others if they aren't fixed before they start then it's too late. For some, getting them fixed won't stop the praying or fighting - especially in males. They have deeloped the habit and you just have to try to train them out of it. Which is a slow and often futile process...

I always figured all male cats did that whether they have been fixed or not. It is just a natural thing for them to do. Just because it has been fixed does not stop it from being a male cat.

A sure cure for wandering is to keep your cats indoors. Cats are better off indoors and typically live longer that way too.

If you get a male cat desexed when he is 1 and a half will it stop him spraying, or does the smell become less potent?

Do male cats stop wandering even if you get them desexed at an older age, also will it stop them fighting with other cats?

MY CAT WAS NEUTERED AT THE AGE OF 5MONTHS BECAUSE HE MATURED EARLY, WHEN HE WAS 1 HE STARTED WANDERING, FIRST OF ALL FOR 4 DAYS, THEN A WEEK, THEN A MONTH, AND HE HAS JUST BEEN RETURNED TO ME AFTER A YEAR. HIS MUM WAS FERREL SO IM ASSUMING THAT ITS IN HIS BLOOD TO WANDER, EVEN THOUGH HE DOSEN'T LEAVE MY SIDE WHEN HE IS AT HOME RECHARGING HIS BATTERIES, HE LOVES TO EXPLORE. HE HAS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. JUST ENSURE YOU GET THEM MICROCHIPPED AS THIS IS MONEY WELL SPENT.

Bella has been with us for 10 months. She was only just under a year old when she came from Cats Protection and had already had a litter. She was micro chipped and spayed. She was possibly born outdoors herself and very independent.

We went away last week as we have a next door neighbour who virtually takes 24 hour care of our cats. We came home on Saturday night and Bella made a real fuss of us. She was in the routine of sleeping on my bed all day but went out and came back Sunday night for supper and we have not seen her since despite tapping dishes calling etc. Any ideas to tempt her back?

We are very distressed because of awful things people do to animals but she is very timid and very alert and fast moving.

my male cat fluffy was neutered when he was about 6 months old.

he has been very independent cat, ive let him out at night, because he cries to get out.but he is always there next morning.he was desperate to get out on saturday morning the 11th

of july 2009, and he has not returned.is it natural for neutered

male cats to wander.(I fear he has been run over or somthing more dispicible has happend to him.is there any chance he might return home. I also have his mother & his sister, but I wont ever

let the out again.(he is such a loving big tom.and i miss him so

much.

I know exactly how you all feel. We have a lovely male cat he was neutered when he was 6 months old and also very independent. He usually comes home every night, but he's been missing now for five days and we are so worried about him. I can't believe he can go for so long. I've heard not all males wonder. If he ever comes back, we're not sure if we should keep him indoors or not. He was a wild kitten when we found him and hates to be confined to the house. We've searched around the neighborhood, put up posters, enquired with with SPCA and veterinarian practices. We're even going to put an ad. in our local newspaper. I need to feel we have done all we can to find him.

Spelled Michigan wrong-I swear I am not illiterate.

Am very concerned about my big neutered black boy, Spencer. For the last couple of years i remember him taking off for a couple of days in the summer or early autumn-I really just remember it was when the weather was beautiful. He recently took off for two days, I think. I have over 12cats & it is confusing at times. But now he has been gone 6days, now going into 7. I have been calling and calling. I am handicapped & going door to door is trying. I posted 2 free ads thru the internet & am thinking of putting one in the small, free paper that everyone gets. He had a pink metallic collar on but no name tag. I just wish he would come home. I miss him so much. He is such a sweet and loving young man. He came to me out of the blue over 4yrs ago & I adopted him & got him neutered. He was already an adult at that time. Have been searching the internet to see how common this is for neutered males to roam, if that is what he is doing. I have driven around the neighborhood a few times, but not spotted him. I keep telling the others to go find Spencer and bring him back home with them.

i have a grey neutered male 1yr old and his brother a ginger lon hair also neutered. The grey cat wanders off, his record is 2 weeks and he always heads for the same area, about 2 miles away. Various neighbours from the area have phone in having found him and now he has become a bit of well known celebrity. I would love to stop this wander lust in him as for me it causes alot of stress and worry. His brother also gets stressed by his absences; strangely he never wanders off. any suggestions please?

"Male cats do return"

I just want to say I sympathise deeply with previous posters who are distressed at a beloved cat's disappearance. I have just endured several hours of woory after my pedigree British Cream Shorthair failed to return when he nipped out as usual (he usually goes in and out through the cat flap a hundred times a day). This time, he was gone for hours, with snow falling, most unlike him. I have been quite upset and castigated myself for 1) not having a collar and name tag on him - he lost the previous one (though he is microshipped); and 2) not having him neutered. I'm telling you, he is getting booked in for castration ASAP.

I appreciate that animals are animals and if they go off and do their thing, we just have to accept that it is Nature. But I now do realise fully that if we want to have pets that we love, we must go against Nature to some degree and have them neutered or keep them inside.

I do sympathise fully with those missing their pets. All I can say is, remember they are animals just doing what they have to do: roam, mate, etc. But also, they know in their liitle animal minds where their source of food, warmth, beds, cuddles and caresses are: namely, your home! So the chances are huge that their cunning little minds will say: Turn up back at that house where you got everything you wanted! Mine did. and yours will.
