| flea control advice I have been living in an apartment in Atlanta for the last three years and we have two indoor cats. An American gray longhair and a black Bombay kitten.When spring arrives, comes the dread of our apartment being infested by fleas, which is strange because our cats are not allowed outside at all. I'm wandering if the flea eggs could have been in the apartment from a previous owner or if cockroaches carry them in when they scurry under our door. It maybe that they are coming in through the air conditioning as well. I am from England, so its been a slight shock to see an increase in insect size and quantity which is common in the Southern States. I've tried lots of natural solutions such as salting our carpet, but I still end up with fleas jumping on my legs whilst walking through our apartment. Using my legs as bait has been one of the most interesting baiting methods so far! But that still leaves the dilemma that these little critters breed like there was no tomorrow! Apparently floating candles in bowls of water is good but I have to admit it wasn't until we finally called in a friend who works in pest control that the problem was rectified. Let me know if you have found any good cheap solutions that work as our apartment complex gets hit every year and other residents are looking for ways to protect their dogs and cats. Cheers! |
| Uh-oh. You seem to have a real flea problem at home and I'm sure that you're not the only one who's bothered by it. Your cats probably feel irritated because of all these pests. It's a good thing you were able to find a good pest control to shoo away all these fleas. Your cats are at peace again and you can maintain a clean home again without having to worry about these pests. |

Thanks Frances, yeah the flea problem has gotten better, especially during the winter months. Summer is another deal altogether!!We also lost a cat this year which was very sad. We are still not sure how he died but he always got ill after receiving his shots and he had a kidney problem. I need to do some more research on some of the flea medicines like front line etc and see if they can have any adverse effects on pets. It may have been a combination of factors plus age. This has made us very cautious about our kitten and I will be conducting more research on the whole flea problem soon. Cheers! JS |
