'cat bit me while asleep!'

My cat sleeps with me, curls around my head. He made a YEOWW! sound and bit my head! I believe he was dreaming. It broke the skin and there's a big bump. It hurts really badly!

Never had shots, he's an inside cat. It's been 3 days and it's still sore and I can't get rid of the headache. My Dr. said I didn't need to come in. I put antibiotic ointment on it.

Why did my cat do this??? And how long will it hurt so bad??

welcome to my world, theresa...of cat-biting-me world, that is. your lucky he's only bitten you once. but sorry to hear you're really hurt from it, though. we sort of have the same situation - we have a young cat, no shots yet, we keep him indoors, and he (unlike yours) likes to bite. we found this guy in the pool skimmer since he was about a 2-3 weeks old. he's now grown into a spoiled little brat who thinks he should get his way all the time, which i believe leads to the biting. at night he wants (and tries) to come sleep in bed and on my pillow, but i push him off. most times he'll just go find a spot at the foot of the bed and doze off, but sometimes he'll go down there and start mawing on my toes. OOOOWWWWW!! i jump up, he takes off, i think it's end of story, i lay back to sleep....he comes back and attack again. :D he's a pesky little critter, i tell you, but a lot of fun too. i've never had a cat before this one, and it's been a trip - so far. my family loves him to death and we're going to get him shots . and we're definitely going to have more fun with him.

as for your question, i think you're right. maybe he was just having a bad bad dream. but then again, maybe you rolled onto him and he was just defending himself. i don't know. i'm no cat expert, but i think you too will be having loads of loving time with your cat.

I would just go to your doctor to make sure everything is okay its better to be safe than sorry and you dont want to end up with some kind of pus infection bump on your face and have it leave a huge mark so I would go in to make sure everything is okay.
