Umbilical cord around legs in birth canal

I was wondering if anyone ever heard of the umbilical cord wrapping itself around the legs of a kitten BEFORE it is born, resulting in the kitten having very discolored legs. I recently had that experience and felt totally helpless to do anything about it, since the blood supply was cut off and this conditon is not reversible once the damage has been done.

Thank you for sharing any information you may have had on this topic.
