Male cat helped Queen in labor? (male cat is her son)

Thank author of this post/commentMy stray cat (lives outside) was in labor, she was nursing her male kitten(at least 8 mos.old)-which surprised me, he's too big for that now!

I was worried he would hurt her since he was suckling so hard and pushing

her belly- I even got him away from her, but she just looked at me and

meowed, and he returned again to continue. I called a vet hospital for

advice, they said to keep him away- but when I came back out to check

on them, she had birthed a kitten! The male cat was just curled up next

to her as if he was content he'd done his job and was acting as a "guard".

During the time the male was suckling while she was obviously in labor-

I got the sense she "needed it", she was meowing a little off and on-

and seemed as if it was helping her.

Has anyone ever seen a queen behave this way with another cat while

in labor?

After the 1st kitten-she meowed at me and then picked up her kit and

ran off with the male following her. She went in under the house.

I have no idea how many kitts she had, I can only hear them sometimes.

She's taking care of them and still regularly comes out to eat.

She had the kitts(maybe just a few- I'm not sure)on March 1st, 2012.

I just wonder how long will she keep her kitts hidden away?

Thank author of this post/comment"Cat "adopted" weaned kitten"

That's cool what your male cat did.. and as long as he's not doing any harm it's probably Ok :) I found a stray pregnant cat and she had 7 kittens. i gave the kittens and the mother away a few months later, but kept one kitten. I also had at the time another adult unfixed female who "adopted" her by nursing her, cuddling, cleaning her, ect. But i'm not sure how she nursed the kitten since she didn't have a litter of her own... it was funny!!!
