| Cat climbing curtains I had a cat I got out of the newspaper as a kitten. She was all white with little black horns on the top of her head between her ears. We named her Bianca because the name sounded mischievous. Once she was about 4 months old she started climbing up my curtains. It drove me nuts so we put her outside. |
| Kittens love to climb. Ours climbed the curtains.. and the cloth wall hangings. Anything she could get her claws into.Declawing her cured that problem. She looked like she is going to try sometimes still. |
| Oh i had a cat that did that! I used a water gun on her and everytime she did the climb i would squirt her with the gun and she would take off in another direction lol. |
| I have looked everywhere on the web for information on a kitten climbing the walls...needless to say, I have been unsuccessful! She started to shimmy up the banister to the stairs-I thought this was pretty cool because she would make it all the way to the top by hugging the wood and climbing with her back claws...NOW she has graduated into climbing the walls and stays attach to the wall as long as she can. She is only 2.5 lbs - (small) 5 month old kitten. Has anyone ever heard of this? Any advice? |
| Interesting account of kitten behavior. It is normal for kittens to be playful and when they overdo that a bit, I do not think placing them on probation or getting them to stay outside would be the solution. It is their nature to want to climb on almost everything..though I have not heard of those that stick on walls. Use a water gun or anything that will discourage extreme behaviors. |
| You are lucky enough to have just a climbing kitten or cat, well what we have is a cat who likes to scratch, much and chew off our couch. If only there are cat trainers available out there. If you know any websites that offers proper cat care and raising (to avoid such cat mischief again) do share them here at the forums. I don't want to hurt our poor pet. |
| There is almost nothing that one can do about a cat climbing up a curtain, no doubt. |
| "no!!!!!!!"
NEVER get rid of their claws. its like cutting off part of their fingers. |
| I hate it when cats seems to unknowingly trying to dewstry everything in our home. You see some cat scratches on the wall and even cat trying to climb on the curtains. I wonder how i could stop those cats from trying to ruin everything. |
| Cats just love to have fun all of the time, one is sure going to have a field day trying to figure out how it is that they can stop those tiny destroyers from wreaking havoc. |
| If you can't stand the heat then get out of it! Meaning if you do not want a cat climbing your curtain then gave her to someone else or abandon her. You have to decide on what do you want a fashionable curtain or a lovable kitten. If you want both then either you live with the fact that it is innate on their nature, de-claw them (don't be picky), or switch to slippery curtains or just blinds. or better yet, instead of cats, why not try dogs. |
| Cats are lovely, and a lover of cats would know that they cannot really do very much about their destructive nature. |
| You have a point there Andrew. But i must admit that I am not that kind of a cat lover. I am not that into cats because they are not my type. But I ave nothing against those cuddly creatures. Maybe in the future I can see myself petting them. Well, have a good day guys. I just hope to hear from all of you soon. Thanks a bunch. ciao.. |

>>Big Dog from The WoodsYou are an idiot who should not be allowed anywhere near an animal. De-clawing a cat is barbaric and is illegal in most civilized countries. |

to stop a cat from climbing curtains: get a squirt gun and use it EVERY time he goes up saying "no" loudly and firmly.or: rolled up newspaper: bang it on a hard surface when the cat climbs, it startles them and they will start to associate the noise with their behavior or: you can have your curtains on a tension rod - so the curtains will fall from the cats weight (yes time consuming but the cat stops trying after about 2-3 months). or: get yourself a cat tree - it is a felines nature to climb. if the cat goes up the curtains, removed him from the curtains and put him on the cat tree. and/or - keep kitties nails trimmed down to make it harder to climb. NEVER: declaw a cat unless it is a last resort - it is VERY painful to the cat - and if you have an indoor cat, he will be defenseless if he gets out! DO NOT put your cat outside because of this. I am a firm believer of indoor cats (live in the city), too many dangers outdoors (from people to dogs) and diseases, and always get your kitty fixed! |
| "Declawed Cat"
Normally only the front claws of a cat are removed.Try this with a declawed cat. Put your arm on hits stomach so its mount by by the part of your hand between the index finger and thumb and back paws are near your elbow. Now, make the cat very angry and afraid. You hand especially that point I described should be bitten very hard and nearly your elbow very damaged by the backclaws and even without front claws the cat will hold onto your arm very tightly as it claws and bites you. Now, tell me that creature is "defenseless". Of course, it is different than a cat with all its claws, but "defenseless" is going way to far in its description. when a cat is being attacked by say...a rot - or other larger dog, it's first instinct is not to jump on it's front legs and scratch with it's rear legs. It usually swipes at the larger animal and runs.It cannot do that when it has no claws to swipe with - the initial scratching it does is to make the other animal not want to chase it so it actually gives the cat a chance to run away. If you attack a cat, yes it scratches a lot - but most damage is done with biting - however when the other animal is that much larger and it overpowers, the cat doesn't want to get close enough to bite, it wants to swipe and run. |
